Best WWE Superstars To Replace John Cena As The Face Of WWE
John Anthony Felix Cena has been the Face of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) for the past decade. Since he made his debut on June 27, 2002, in a match against WWE Hall Of Famer and RAW General Manager, Kurt Angle; John has become one of the biggest WWE Superstars in all of WWE and the wrestling industry. In 2017, he added a big point to his resume as he won his 16th world championship title defeating AJ Styles at the 2017 Royal Rumble Pay-per-view tying the record of most world championship title wins with two- time WWE Hall Of Famer, Ric Flair. He has also won the United States Championship on five different occasions and main evented the company's biggest pay-per-view Wrestlemania on multiple occasions. Whether you like John Cena or not you must admit the man clearly is a robot as he works harder than almost any other WWE Superstar. Recently, John Cena has been taking time off from WWE due to outside opportunities such as hosting reality shows and acting in movies. The WWE fans are now speculating that John Cena's WWE tenure may be coming to an end. Something which fans never taught would happen so soon. Since John will be sidelined most of the time for his acting career, it would mean someone would have to step up and take his place as the face of the company.
The obvious and first guess on every WWE Fan's mind to replace John Cena is the man that clearly seems to be already groomed to take over his place, The Big Dog, Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns shares several similarities to John Cena, the biggest similarity is the crowd reaction in which he receives when he enters any WWE arena. Whether the reaction is seventy percent boos and thirty percent cheers or vice versa, The Big Dog, certainly gets the big reactions. He currently is a 3-time WWE Champion and has main evented, the biggest show of them all, Wrestlemania on 3 separate occasions. His latest main event saw him beat the legendary WWE Superstar and perhaps the greatest of all time, The Undertaker in which he seemingly retired the dead man. If that resume does not make you believe he is being groomed to take John Cena's spot then I have no idea how they could convince you anymore. Roman certainly has the look of a top WWE Superstar and has improved tremendously in terms of his in-ring skills as he has wrestled classics against AJ Styles and even the Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman. His mic skills are also improving but the fact he is being booed so early in his career must make WWE officials feel a bit uneasy about giving him the final big push to the top.
Of course, if Roman Reigns is mentioned in this list, his close "brother" and rival, Seth Rollins had to be mentioned as well. The Architect, Seth Rollins has made a big name for himself when he abruptly broke up the SHIELD in June of 2014. Seth was instantly pushed to great heights as the face of the Authority (composed of Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, J & J Security, Kane, The Big Show and Randy Orton). He won the Money In The Bank Ladder Match and cashed in his contract to win the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 31 in 2015. Recently, Seth has been on a different path this time as a baby face or good guy defeating his mentor, Triple H at Wrestlemania 33 in an unsanctioned match and feuding with the likes of Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe. Seth definitely has the support of the fans on his side as he gets big pops (mostly filled with cheers) when he enters a WWE arena. He has shown before that he can handle himself pretty well on the microphone, his ring work is absolutely spectacular and has lots of charisma to go along with that. If the Roman Reigns experiment does not work out I could definitely see Seth Rollins as a top choice to replace John Cena as the Face of the WWE.
One of the most interesting and cool characters on WWE Programming today is none other than the Demon King, Finn Balor. After his successful tenure in New Japan Pro Wrestling as a 3-time Junior Heavyweight Champion and six-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, the former Prince Devitt made his WWE Debut in 2014, in the company's developmental territory, NXT with the name "Finn Balor". Finn rose to the top of NXT quite rapidly after defeating former WWE Universal Champion, Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship at a WWE Network Exclusive event, The Beast In The East in Japan. Finn went on to advance to the main roster after being drafted as the fifth overall pick in the WWE draft in 2016. Finn quickly went on to advance on RAW winning the right to face Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the new WWE Universal Championship after defeating Roman Reigns, Rusev, Cesaro and Kevin Owens in his first night on RAW. Balor fought Seth at Summerslam and won the WWE Universal Championship and became the inaugural WWE Universal Champion.Unfortunately, Finn was injured during the match and had to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship and sit out on injury for seven months. Finn made his return in March of 2017, on the RAW after Wrestlemania and is now embroiled in a feud with Bray Wyatt. His demon merchandise would definitely be a big hit among young fans and even some older fans. Finn clearly has the look and gimmick of a top WWE Superstar, however, his size may hold him back from going to the top along with the fact that he is already thirty-six years of age.
This one may be a big shock to many of you but I believe that given the chance and time he could be a huge WWE Superstar. The Gold-Blooded, Jason Jordan has recently made a big impact as a singles competitor after being revealed as Kurt Angle's son (not actually his real son just for the storyline). The former member of the popular tag team, American Alpha with his good friend, Chad Gable in which they quickly became one of the most talked about tag teams in WWE. The pairing started out in WWE's developmental territory, NXT winning the NXT Tag Team Championships, then ascended to the main roster winning the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships. Unfortunately, their run as champions was cut short after they lost the championships to The Usos and seemingly disappeared off television for quite a while. Now Jason has been moved to RAW after becoming Kurt's son, he has become a solo act. Jason Jordan has always been a stand out when it comes to his in-ring skills as he always leaves the WWE Universe in awe with his amazing power and technique. The only thing which is holding him back is his charisma and mic skills. Hopefully, now he has the backing of Kurt Angle, he will soon improve those traits and in my opinion, he would be the perfect guy to replace John Cena. He has the look and in-ring skills to be a top WWE Superstar and the Face of the WWE.
Another shocker to this list would be the Eater of Worlds, Bray Wyatt. Bray Wyatt has taken the WWE Universe by storm since debuting on the main roster in 2012. Alongside his Wyatt Family members, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, Wyatt has quickly become one of the most popular characters on WWE Television today. He has been compared to the likes of WWE Hall Of Famer Jake The Snake Roberts and WWE Legend The Undertaker. Bray has been in high profile feuds with top WWE Superstars like John Cena, Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, The Undertaker and Randy Orton. He recently won his first championship in WWE, in 2016 when he alongside Randy Orton defeated Heath Slater and Rhyno to become the Smackdown LIVE tag team champions. The reign did not last long but Bray went on to win his second championship in WWE not long after in February 2017 when he won the Elimination Chamber match after eliminating John Cena and AJ Styles to become the WWE Champion. His reign as champion also ended quite quickly once again but he is now on the RAW brand currently in a feud with Finn Balor. Bray certainly is a popular star among the WWE Universe as he always gets big reactions when he comes out along with his mysterious amazing promos he delivers. He has loads of charisma and is also very talented inside the ring for a big man. Many people believe that Bray has the potential to be a top baby face in WWE as he is very over with the fans. Considering the fact he is only thirty years old there is more than enough time for him to transform his character into an interesting baby face and perhaps even the Face of WWE.
Yes, you read that right, the man once dubbed as the "Chosen One", Drew Mcintrye is another person I believe could be a replacement for John Cena. After making his official debut in WWE as a villain character, dubbed as the "Chosen One" by none other than WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Drew rose quite rapidly to the top as he quickly won the Intercontinental Championship from former WWE Superstar, John Morrison (now known as Johnny Mundo). It all was going well for McIntyre until his relationship with former WWE Superstar, Taryn Terrell caused him to get a bit of backstage heat and caused his declination down the card. His run with WWE ended in 2013 after he was released from the company after spending time in the lower card in a stable with Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater called 3MB. Drew went on to go to the independent scene wrestling in promotions such as Insane Championship Wrestling and What Culture Pro Wrestling and even had a run in TNA as TNA World Heavyweight Champion and Impact Grand Champion. His run with TNA ended in February 2017 and he returned to the independent scene once again and not too long after it was announced on April 1, 2017, after he made an appearance on NXT Takeover: Orlando that he had resigned with WWE this time in WWE's developmental territory, NXT. Drew is now scheduled to go on to face NXT Champion Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. Drew has definitely improved a bunch from his last WWE run as his physical appearance has improved tremendously along with his in-ring skills. It seems the company has forgotten about his past and are interested in giving him another chance to rise to the top. His promo work has improved and he looks like a legit main eventer when he steps inside the ring. Hopefully with his improvement, the "Chosen One" gets another opportunity to go the main roster and become the chosen one to replace John Cena as the Face of WWE.
