Live from Winnipeg

The St. Louis Blues rolled into Winnipeg looking to get a victory against their division rivals. Energy level may have been a concern since this was the 3rd game in 4 nights for the Blues.

The Blues started out very aggressive at the beginning of the game. They were able to sustain pressure on the offensive end, but unfortunately they were not able to capitalize despite good scoring chances. The Winnipeg Jets were able to strike first as Mark Scheifele was able to deflect a shot from Tyler Myers to make it a 1-0 score at the 15:50 mark of the game (MARK SCHEIFELE (12) ASST: TYLER MYERS (7), MATHIEU PERREAULT (20).

Sixteen seconds into the 2nd period the Blues were able to answer back when Troy Brouwer was able to capitalize on a smooth pass from David Backus, to make it a 1-1 tie game (19:46) (TROY BROUWER (6) ASST: DAVID BACKUS (10), JAY BOUWMEESTER (7). The Jets fought right back, after Robby Fabbri missed a scoring opportunity on a wide open net. The Jets would take control of the puck, and had a break away down the ice. After missing on the first chance, they took advantage of the immediate second opportunity when Chris Thorburn banged it in the net on a pass from Blake Wheeler to take back the lead 2-1 (14:06) (CHRIS THORBURN (5) ASST: BLAKE WHEELER (19), TYLER MYERS (8).

Later in the 2nd period the Jets would extend their lead when Drew Stafford would bank it in to make it 3-1 (11:30) (DREW STAFFORD (11) ASST: MATHIEU PERREAULT (21), MARK SCHEIFELE (9). The Bluenote would take advantage as they went on the later in the period. Alexander Steen would fire it in the net from the point to bring the score within one late in the 2nd period (1:35) (PPG - ALEXANDER STEEN (11) ASST: KEVIN SHATTENKIRK (14), VLADIMIR TARASENKO (12).

Heading into the 3rd period, the Blues were on another power play, Vladimir Tarasenko would slap in a sweet one-timer to tie the game at 3-3 (19:10) ( PPG- VLADIMIR TARASENKO (19) ASST: KEVIN SHATTENKIRK (15), ALEXANDER STEEN (17). The Blues were able to finally take the lead as late in the 3rd period, Paul Stastny scored on an assist from Vladimir Tarasenko making it a 4-3 game (3:39) (PAUL STASTNY (3) ASST: VLADIMIR TARASENKO (13), ALEXANDER STEEN (18).

The Jets would pull their goalie late in the game in an attempt to tie. But the Blues defense were able to hold onto the lead and get the 4-3 victory.

Final analysis

Despite trailing 3-1 early, the Blues showed resilience and fought back to get the win. They were pretty dominate through out the game, but they made a few mistakes that the Jets capitalized on. Even with those mistakes, the Blues showed how far they have come with this win. Jake Allen had a very good night between the pipes, picking up his 14th win of the year. The Blues are in 2nd place in the Central Division with a record of 18-10-4 (40). Their next game is this Thursday at home against a heated division rival the Nashville Predators at 7pm.
