Today, the Buffalo Bills looked like the team everyone thought they would be at the beginning of the season. They've now dropped two straight games to .500 teams, and didn't really look competitive in either of them.
This was by far the Bills worse defensive display, allowing an inconsistent Tony Romo to complete 23-26 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. They also gave up 135 yards on the ground to rookie DeMarco Murray, who's been running sensational the last few weeks. They made a mediocre Cowboys offense look like a juggernaut.
Offensively, Ryan Fitzpatrick played horrible, throwing three picks, one of them a pick six to Terrance Newman in the fourth quarter. They just weren't able to get anything going all day, and with the Cowboys jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, the Bills were never able to recover.
So where does this loss leave Buffalo? In hind site, the wins that they got early in the season don't look all that impressive right now. They beat Kansas City, Oakland, New England, Washington, and Philadelphia. There losses have come to the Giants, Bengals, Jets, and now Cowboys, all potential playoff teams. There schedule doesn't fare well going forward. They have three games they can win with the Dolphins twice and the Broncos on the schedule, but they also have the Jets, Chargers, Patriots, and Titans left to play. With four divisional games left on the schedule, they still have a shot of winning the East, but if they play like they have the past two weeks, that's not going to happen. The Patriots have a soft schedule in the second half of the season, and the Jets are playing extremely well. Tonight will be a good barometer of where this division is going with the Jets versus Patriots. Right now, I like the Jets winning this division, and possibly getting a first round bye and a home game in the playoffs.
