A Simple Kindness: California Girl visits Rangers Ballpark and is brought to tears by a Little Boy's Kindness
Rangers Versus White Sox
Great Team, Great Promos
I love the Rangers baseball team but am also enamored by the promotions that are given out before some of the games. I have a collection of Tee Shirts, Baseball Caps, Bobble-heads, Rally Towels and other paraphernalia. On this particular day, the first 30,000 fans received a Replica Trophy of the American League Championship commemorating the win last year. My husband and I arrived an hour early to the game to make certain that we would get one. With the coveted trophy's in hand, we took our seats in the upper section near the foul pole. We later moved down to an area where we could see better and had a view of the score board and the third base line.
I overheard some conversation from the row in front of us. It sounded as if the entire group had missed getting their trophies. I am not certain whether one of their group was rushing them to sit down or they had come in when they were all handed out. One girl in particular, Jessica, really wanted one. She was visiting from California and this was her first time to come to Texas. The Rangers were one of her favorite teams and she felt badly that she had missed out on the special token of her visit to the Rangers Ballpark. She let it be known to those in the area that she would love to get one.
A Great Game
The game went very well. Matt Harrison threw 6 innings of shut out ball. Adrian Beltre and David Murphy hit home runs. Josh Hamilton hit a boomer around 445 feet into the upper deck when my husband went to the restroom. What timing! Josh did some great work in the outfield, stretching out into left center to bring in one amazing catch.
A Simple Act of Kindness
Around the 8th inning, a little boy came walking down from a couple rows behind us with his trophy in hand. He handed it to Jessica. She smiled and tears welled up in her eyes. She explained to her newly married and expectant friend what had happened and silent tears streamed down her face as well. I was uplifted by what had happened and asked if I might share this Simple Act of Kindness with all of you.
Jessica Receiving Replica Trophy at Ranger's Game
Thank you, From Jessica
Jessica loves sports and works for ESPN Zone in California. This was her first trip to Texas. After her visit, she said she would actually consider moving here. She found the people to be really friendly. She enjoyed her time at the Rangers Ballpark and will particularly remember one little boy who cared about someone else enough to give her a Special Remembrance of her time in Texas. It was a Special Kindness.
