Chicago Bulls need to re-sign Marco Belinelli

The Chicago Bulls need to do everything in there power to re-sign the italian shooting guard Marco Belinelli. Some of you may believe I am jumping to this conclusion to quickly, and maybe I am? But Belinelli has a strong upside and while he will not become a superstar he could just be the backcourt partner that Derrick Rose needs in the future.

Ever since Richard "Rip" Hamilton went down with his foot injury and Belinelli was inserted into the Bulls starting lineup he has instantly been a success. Belinelli struggled off the bench which I believe was mainly due to the fact that his teamates where not giving him the ball enough and when they did it was only for the open 3. Since Belinelli has been inserted into the starting lineup he has been running off screens much like Kyle Korver did, but Belinelli also has the ability to slash to the basket as well as hit the open 3 which means they have to pay him respect.

Now true, this has only been shown in 3 games so far, but it has been the way that he has scored his points which is what is most encouraging. By running off screens and being able to hit open shots as well as slash to the basket it will not enable the defense to simply collaspe on Rose everytime he drives into the lane. In addition to this Belinelli's defense has already improved out of site under the guidance of Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. Belinelli is working extremely hard on defense and refusing to give his opponents open shots.

At this stage Rip Hamilton is still a better player than Belinelli, but he is not the future. Rip is 34 years old might be better suited to coming off the bench where he can get some more rest and avoid getting injured again. Rip will also provide a very good scoring punch off the bench and is a very handy backup should Belinelli be having an off night.

If the Bulls where to re-sign Belinelli and if it were to succeed (which I strongly believe it would) the starting lineup of Rose,Belinelli,Deng,Boozer and Noah with players like Hinrich,Robinson,Hamilton,Gibson and Butler coming off the bench makes this Bulls team extremely strong. The need then to go after another free agent is suddenly not so important and the Bulls may not even have to use the amenisty clause on Boozer. Yes it is a bit of a risk, you have to give something to get something in the NBA and if Belinelli were to work out, maybe there will be a couple more banners hanging in the United Center.

Being a diehard Bulls fan, Marco Belinelli and Rip Hamilton are the same type of player. Both require help to create a shot. Honestly do not think the Bulls will resign either of them., but he has played well the last couple of games.
