Derrick Rose out with torn ACL

Updated on April 28, 2012

A tragedy for all basketball fans around the world whether you support the Chicago Bulls or not, the leagues MVP is out for the rest of the NBA playoffs and most likely the majority of next season depending whether Rose chooses to have the normal style operation to fix his ACL or the LARS surgery which can have a player back within 3-4 months.

Derrick Rose was playing like an MVP again, he dominated the 76ers with a 23 point 9 assist 9 rebound performance before his injury, with 1.20 left to go in the 4th quarter with the bulls up by double figures, Rose drove to the basket before pulling up for a jumper and deciding to change his mind while in the air and landed awkwardly on his left leg. Straight away you knew something was wrong with Rose writhing on the ground in pain clutching his left knee. The Chicago Bulls trainers tended to Rose for several minutes on the court before taking him off and down to the rooms below. The Chicago Bulls fans and players worst fears where realised when the Chicago Bulls released a statement saying that Rose had torn his ACL and was out for the rest of the Post Season.

This is a massive blow to not just the team and it's title hopes but also to the city of Chicago who has not been this happy since the Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen days of the late 80s-late 90s. Though Chicago have done extremely well without Rose with 18-9 in his adsense, it will be extremely hard to now get past the Miami Heat. Though Chicago have beaten Miami twice without Derrick Rose (one of them he only scored 2 points) and they do have the home court advantage.

One thing is for certain that the Bulls will not give up and they have extreme depth in order to attempt to cover for there superstar, meanwhile Rose will become a spectator and cheer his team on. As for next season I wouldn't want to be opposing point guards to Rose as he will be more determined than ever to stamp himself back on the league.

True to form team owner, Jerry Reinsdorf did absolutely nothing to improve his roster and get some help for his team. Instead the organization continued to send false biweekly press releases that Derrick Rose was almost ready to return. There has been so much misinformation from the Bulls that no one knows for certain if Rose is going to play next season or if his career is over. The Bulls will be lucky to get pass the first round.

I reckon they will get past the celtics/hawks after that as well, the heat though will be an entirely different story, I think it depends alot on the bench mob

Surely, they can get past the 76ers. After that, who knows?

The bookies seem to be with you with the 76ers at $3.50 & the Bulls at $1.37.

      Thanks mate cheers :)

I believe they will be okay! They have had a 2 game break which I think will serve them well, they have played well without Rose this season and I believe they have the depth with the bench mob and players like loul deng, carlos boozer and rip hamilton (if he stays healthy) to cover for Rose.

I just posted the question of whether the Bulls are gone for the playoffs with Rose's injury. You seem to be optimistic that they can survive with the depth of their roster, but what about the psychological effect on the team overall to have their MVP out of the championship race? Nice hub by the way! Cheers Michael
