EPL Transfer Deadline Review

Updated on September 3, 2012

The biggest transfer deadline moves will be analyzed and "dissected" by team.

  • Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
  • Hugo Lloris (Lyon)
  • Moussa Dembele (Fulham)

  • Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburg)
  • Giovani dos Santos (Mallorca)
  • Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

It may look good from a distance, but overall, Tottenham didn't make as good moves as it looks. They lost van der Vaart, which may have been their hardest fall. Modric was going to leave anyway, and dos Santos wasn't a good fit fot the squad, but van der Vaart was a good match for AVB and a consistent player. Lloris isn't needed, as what is wrong with Brad Friedel? Dempsey was a good signing and will fit in well with the Tottenham squad. Honestly, Moussa Dembele may have been their best signing, as he is a speedy midfielder, and will fit in for van der Vaart.

Dimitar Berbatov

  • Ashkan Dejagah (Wolfsburg)
  • Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United)
  • Kieran Richardson (Sunderland)

  • Clint Dempsey (Tottenham)
  • Moussa Dembele (Tottenham)

Good signings and sales for Fulham, and they will be able to build off of these signings. Since Dempsey wouldn't play for Fulham anyway, they had to transfer him, and got a respectable sum for him (6 Million, signed for 4 million). Dembele is a player that Fulham would have rather kept, but is a great signing for Tottenham as mentioned above. Berbatov is Fulham's best signing, and deserved more playing time and Man United. He will get plenty of that at Fulham. Finally, Kieran Richardson was another good signing and if improves in some areas, he will be a bargain at 2 Million.

Javi Garcia

Manchester City

  • Javi Garcia (Benfica)
  • Matija Nastasic (Fiorentina)
  • Scott Sinclair (Swansea)
  • Maicon (Inter)

  • Nigel de Jong (Milan)
  • Adam Johnson (Sunderland)

Manchester City made no surprises, transferring out two mediocre players to sign stars. Maicon was an interesting signing that I think will work, but he is getting old, and will most likely retire soon. Sinclair will spend his City career on the bench until he's transferred to a team like Everton or Villa. Garcia is their best signing and will be a star for City from the start. He has the values and skills that City need, and infuses the roster with youth (Man City roster average age: 27, Garcia is 25). Not sure how good Nastasic will really be, but he has potential and room to grow. He too will be part of the next City "era".

I meant more that they were considered mediocre by City standards, but I totally agree with you about Swansea.

I was happy for dos santos, finally he can get on to have a real club career. What is wrong with brad friedel is what happened with the goal that tied the match, Lloris grabs that ball.

It is unfair to call adam johnson and nigel de jong mediocre, Man city's situation made them bench players, on most clubs they start without question.

Johnson's speed down the flanks was always dangerous whenever he played and he had a good distance shot. and dribbling skills.

De Jong is an experienced defender, never underestimate the value of an experienced defender in a long season like man city's

Sinclair will get to play, the season is long. People forget the goal of man city is to truly win it all, not say they will and only have two goals. man city have the depth to literally win it all.

All of their players will get time to play and if anything that is why de jong is gone as the deeper number of midfielders will help the squad in the cup tournaments.

Maicon is a security blanket. He is very experienced and just in case they get an injury he can come inand unlike de jong plays a defensive wing role.

swansea did some great business. it didnt shake up the club at all and they are a small side, and arent use to playing the game in the epl.
