Eagles-Cowboys Postgame: The Season's Over
The Season is over. The Eagles stink. Chip Kelly is a horrible offensive coordinator and a worse GM. Sam Bradford isn't better than his St. Louis record. That was a horrible trade. The special teams won't be bailing Chipper out again repeatedly this season. The big-ticket free agent running back ran for all of 2 yards. And the defense actually played well, but the Eagles still lost.
Did I miss anything?
If there are any Eagles fans out there who are going to say I'm not a real fan or that I'm jumping off the bandwagon, then it you can simply point to them and easily identify the dumbest person in the room.
This Eagles team is horrible and it's all Chip Kelly's fault. He took control of personnel and the team is worse than it's been in years.
Chip decided that anyone who didn't bow down and kiss his ring was gone. How is that offensive guard situation working out now that Evan Mathis was sent packing because he dared to question King Chip and ask for more money? How does the offense look now that every defense realizes that the Eagles can't throw a pass more than 15 yards down field? How do those new free agent running backs look behind an offensive line with absolute garbage at the guard positions? How does the new quarterback look now that Chip traded away Foles and a second round pick for an "upgrade"? And how is it possible that an Eagles coach could call more pass plays than Andy Reid?
The Philadelphia Eagles are 0-2 and their season is over. Really.
he Eagles lost to a Dallas Cowboys team that was without WR Dez Bryant and any semblance of a pass rush before the game and lost QB Tony Romo during the game. They generated absolutely no offense and their supposedly great special teams allowed a TD. They simply played like a bad team because they are a bad team.
Seriously, this Eagles team is just not as good as we all thought. They looked good for a few snaps in the preseason, but now they look like a team that could easily go 0-16. Hell, I hope they do go 0-16 so they can get their franchise quarterback, because it sure doesn't look like Sam Bradford is the answer.
Bradford was once again asked to throw the ball on almost every down by his idiot head coach and he once again wasn't up to the challenge. Bradford completed 23 of his 34 passes for 224 yards and a TD, but most of that came on a meaningless drive at the end of the game when Dallas was just letting the Eagles run out the clock on a game that was already over. Bradford threw two INTs, but one of them wasn't his fault. Unfortunately, the one that was his fault was in the endzone on a drive that could have gotten the Eagles back into the game. He was awful and I can't possibly be alone in wishing the Eagles still had Nick Foles at quarterback.....and a 2nd round draft pick next year.
Honestly, I hope Chipper goes back to college next year, where he belongs. And if he could somehow take owner Jeffrey Lurie with him, that would be great. This team isn't anywhere near a Championship team and the owner and head coach are to blame.
Lurie gave Chip total control after two seasons without a playoff win and Chip let his arrogance get the best of him in constructing a team that obviously is lacking in many areas.
NFC East Standings
New York Giants
A week after the defense gave the lowly Atlanta Falcons a win, "genius" Chip's offense failed to show up in the home opening loss to the Cowboys. The Eagles went three and out on five of their first seven possessions of the game and the other two were four and outs. Chip's hand-picked QB has looked awful in six of the eight quarters so far this season. He spent big money on DeMarco Murray and decided to put a makeshift offensive line in front of him and the results have been as bad as you would think. Chip signed Murray to a five-year, $42 million deal and he has 11 yards on 21 carries this season after gaining all of 2 yards on 13 carries against a suspect Cowboys defense.
Yes, it really is that bad.
The Eagles are so bad they even managed to make Brandon Weeden look like a competent QB. Weeden, who is a backup for a reason, completed all 7 of his passes against the Eagles for 73 yards and a TD. So even on a day when the Eagles defense played relatively well, they allowed a backup QB without his best WR, to drive the field and score a TD to put the game away. Is it possible that there are even any optimistic Eagles fans still left out there?
Is the Eagles' Season Over?
I know I'll take heat for bashing the Eagles, but they absolutely deserve it. They were facing a team with a suspect defense that was without their best offensive weapon. The defense actually did their part, but the team still lost. That is a very bad sign for a team that is supposed to be built on a high-scoring offense.
This can all be laid at the feet of the "genius" that is Chip Kelly. He picked all of these offensive players that have looked absolutely terrible so far this season. He traded away a QB that beat the vaunted Seattle defense in Week 1 for a guy who looks absolutely lost out there. He spent a huge amount of money on free agent running backs, but decided to jettison his starting guards and now the offensive line can open even a crack for those running backs to run through. He's told us how he doesn't need big name receivers and now defenses crowd the box, knowing that the Eagles won't even attempt to go over the top. Chip Kelly was billed as an offensive genius, but he's looking more like a dunce so far in a season that might already be over.
The Eagles have started the season 0-2 and the Cowboys are now 2-0, with both wins being in the division. It doesn't even matter that the Cowboys are without their starting QB, best receiver and best pass rushers. The Redskins stink. The Giants have an idiot for a quarterback. And the Eagles look like a team that is closer to the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft than they are to the No. 1 spot in the NFC East.
I'm actually mad at myself for thinking that Chip Kelly had a clue and that all his offseason moves would work out.
Right now it doesn't look like this Eagles team has the talent or heart to win many games this season
The Eagles lost a game to an injury-riddled Cowboys team when everything was on the line. That tells me everything that I need to know about Kelly's hand-picked QB, who has a losing record in the NFL. It also tells me everything I need to know about Chip Kelly. I now have serious doubts as to whether or not his offense can win in the NFL. And I also doubt that the Eagles will bounce back and be a legitimate contender this season.
Wow. That changed quickly, didn't it?
