Evgeni Plushenko is a Russian sportsman and figure skater, sex symbol and world champion.
His first Olympic gold came to him with both hard effort and good luck. During one interview, Evgeni confessed that he had a very strong subconscious fear as he had failed a toe loop element during Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002. He then only took the second place. That's why he was afraid to fail again during his performance in Turin in 2006. The short program including that unlucky element was a success, judges were fair, scores were high. But Evgeni admitted that he had nearly fallen again and that he had a strong feeling of some powerful mystical energy helping him and preventing him from falling. "It was like an angel lifted me", he said. Simply speaking, he was lucky. In 2010 he won silver.
During his career as a figure skater he won lots of medals and prizes, got a bunch of traumas and acquired plenty of admirers.
Evgeni spent his childhood traveling. At first the family lived in Siberia, and his parents took part in the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline. But the rigorous climate weakened Evgeni. He caught cold now and then, and once he had a pneumonia. After his recovery the family moved to Volgograd. It is there that an interesting situation took place after which Evgeni began to do skating.
Doctors advice was that he should do sports for a better health. Once as he was walking with his mother in the street they encountered a girl who was crying. She didn't like her skates, and so her mother gave them to Evgeni. Miraculously they fitted him perfectly. And he liked the gift. This is how he began to skate. At the end of February 1987 Plushenko was invited to join a skating club.
His first prize was a crystal skate that he got at the age of 7.
His character was strong as well as his belief in his talent. At the age of 11 he began to do complicated elements even better than many adult figure skaters. This is when the skating ring was closed. To continue his vocation he had to move to Saint-Petersburg.
