Falcons Extend Streak

Updated on April 13, 2015

Home Run Celebration

Miller

Coming into Saturday, the Knights of North Davidson and the Falcons of Forbush had winning streaks of five and six, respectively. The Knights were ranked 9th in the 4A coaches poll while the Falcons stood at 5th in the 2A. A true battle between dominant programs.

The Falcons drew first blood in the top of the first inning. Allison Mitchell got herself on first base by way of a swinging bunt. Savannah Yale followed with a little "small ball" as she sacrificed Mitchell to second base. Wooten, needing only a single to score Mitchell, decided to double up with a long fly ball over the head of the center fielder that allowed her to trade places with Mitchell at second base. Logan Wood singled, but it was hit too sharply for Wooten to score as the center fielder fired the ball home. Wood took second on the throw.

The Falcons failed to increase its lead as Miller grounded into a fielder's choice and Lineberry flied out to left to end the threat.

The Knights opened up with a lead-off walk in the bottom of the first inning, but Sydney Miller struck out the next three batters to close the door. The second inning was quiet for both teams as the Falcons continued to lead by one run.

Wooten and Wood changed the direction of the game in the top of the third with their own two-out rally. Wooten lined a single to left and Wood followed with a bomb over the left field wall to put the Falcons ahead 3-0.

The Falcons added another in the fourth. Kayla Shore rocketed a ball off of the third baseman for a single. Mallory Choplin flexed her wheels to steal second base, and scooted home on the single by Mitchell.

Miller cruised until the fifth inning when a lead-off walk came back to haunt her. After the walk, Miller retired the next two batters, but gave up back-to-back singles to allow the run to score. The Falcons gave up another run on a first/third mix-up.

The Falcons would get one of the runs back in the top of the seventh to put away the Knights by a final score of 5-2.

Next week, the Falcons will travel to conference foe, North Surry on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the team travels to 6th ranked West Forsyth, and then hosts North Surry on Friday.

Serious

Moments before the smash to third base. Kayla Shore takes her job of designated hitter seriously. The Falcons were still in the field as Shore set quietly in the dugout with her helmet already snapped into place. That is focus!

Coming Soon

Coming soon to a theater near you! Choplin and Mitchell co-star in a horror film for the opposition that is guaranteed to give the defense nightmares. Let these two players get on base and watch them fly around the bases.
