First FIFA World Cup Game!!!
While this was not the first game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, it was the first game I saw- EVER! Well, in terms of men's soccer in general, this was the first time I sat and watched a whole game all the way through... and I'm glad I did because this was a good game!
It may be important to note that I don't really watch sports that often, so this game review is going to be me mostly talking about what I saw in THIS game. Not comparing past performances and expectations.
Let's start off with offense. For pretty much the whole match, especially in the first half, Brazil had a very noticeable stronger offense than Mexico and seemed more strategic in the way they handled the ball. They had great ball movement and kept the ball on Mexico's side of the field. Brazil also did really well at creating opportunities for goals. On the other hand, Mexico's offense wasn't really strong at all during the first half, but did pick up a bit in the second half. They weren't creating chances for themselves to score, and when they did, whoever took the shot would always kick the ball just a little bit too high or wide.
As for defense, I wasn't really seeing that effort from Brazil, but that can be contributed to the fact that Mexico wasn't really an offensive threat during the match. However, the man of the match would obviously have to be Guillermo Ochoa, Mexico's goalkeeper. Every save he made, six to be exact, would've definitely went in for a Brazil goal if not for his awareness and quick action that saved Mexico's day.
Overall, I enjoyed this match as my first men's soccer viewing. It was a match-up of offense versus defense with neither side coming out victorious and it definitely made me want to watch some more, which I definitely will!
