Rule #1 The Power of Faith in Extreme Situations

Konyukhov has always been a believer. His grandfather was a priest so as his brother. He is even canonized as a new martyr.

To the Fedor's opinion, there are no unbelievers among climbers as well as in war, and on the ship. When Fedor goes on a long voyage and remains alone with the endless expanse of the ocean for months or tries to survive in the ice, he has a lot of time to think and pray. There, away from civilization, he forgets that in the world there is envy, anger, distrust, self-interest.

Loneliness among the ocean is not an obstacle to the spiritual life of man. The Holy Spirit breathes wherever He wants, so it doesn’t matter where a person happens to be physically. Spiritual life is within us.

In his book "My way to the truth", he writes "I, the only one from the Orthodox, am in this part of the world. There are no people here, there are no birds, no whales and fish. Everything here is devoid of beneficence. I turn my mind's eye with faith and hope in Jesus Christ. Faith will help me to know Him with love, all hope is in Him.

Rule #2 Pleasure Can Be Obtained Through Overcoming Difficulties

From an early age, set yourself a life goal and go to it, but stick to these words: “True satisfaction is not got by the achievement of the goal, but by overcoming obstacles to it."

Fedor says the people should constantly take care of what they think about. By doing so, they will easily overcome all sin. He writes "After each expedition, I change. Every expedition - to the North or South Pole, climbing Everest or swimming alone around the world - renews my spirit, but wears out my body".

According to Konyukhov, it is very difficult for people far from travelling to understand why explorers expose themselves to extreme dangers on an expedition. Often, Konyukhov returned from the expedition with new debts, but despite this, he went on a trip after a short period of time again and again.

The answer is simple: he loves adventures.

I love enthusiasts. They are winning. It is an enthusiasm that brings a person to the path of achievement. In all my travels, it was an enthusiasm that led me out of heavy, deadly troubles.

Rule #3 Do Not Strive For Records, Do What You Love

“Going to the goal is the goal itself,” says Buddhist wisdom. "My life is a record itself", says Fedor Konyukhov.

Everybody loves different things. For a sailor, happiness is to go sailing; for a rich person - to get even richer; for a scientist - to make scientific research.

Fedor is a romantic, adventurer. It will not be difficult for him to be in the sea for a long time since he loves it almost like his beloved woman. He wants to go around the globe more times without calling at the ports, but he doesn't aspire to any records. He wants to be in the ocean alone with the winds and restless waves, talk with the birds and animals that inhabit the oceans, feel the rotation of the Earth and read morning and evening prayers every day, looking at the rising and setting sun. That's what pulls him on the gigantic journey.

Rule #4 Be Silent and View Yourself From The Outside

Be silent: people stand out from the world of animals by the ability to speak, people stand out from the human world by the ability to be silent. The more you keep silent, the more people will hear you. Silence is better than talking.

Constant music does not allow us to enjoy such a beautiful phenomenon as silence. People of past centuries lived in a world of silence. This gave them the opportunity to focus on the inner life. And our contemporaries should make efforts to create an atmosphere of silence necessary for contact with their soul.

People nowadays like to sit at home, watch TV, discuss friends and neighbours and envy more successful ones. But they forget that everyone always needs to look at himself from the side, control his thoughts and actions. Until a person clean up his soul, he cannot become truly happy.

Rule #5 We Need to Look at Death Without Undue Fear

We always live on the brink of death. How little man needs so that the thread of his life breaks. One must look at this without excessive fear, but with full awareness. A clear idea of the mortality of life is not a reason to give up, but a reason to appreciate and love every moment of life, live today, now, and not in dreams of what will happen to you tomorrow, live, experiencing life to the full.

Real life quickly passes, and death is approaching us. Death can suddenly overtake us when we are not at all ready. Therefore, man must always diligently fulfil God's commandments. Therefore, in real life, there is nothing to be proud of and nothing to have an addiction for.

Travels were, are and will be. And after a hundred years, and after two hundred, and after a thousand. They will change - they will become different, only the word will remain the same. You can no longer be like Miklouho-Maclay or Sedov. Now you do not open the continents or islands. You discover your spirituality.

Does Fedor Konyukhov Plan to Set New Records in The Future?

Of course, he has new goals!

1. To cross the oceans on a catamaran.

From 2021 to 2022 Fedor Konyuknov plans to attempt the first solo crossing of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans aboard a solar-powered catamaran. This catamaran is equipped with electric motors and solar modules.

2. To make hot-air balloon high-altitude record attempt.

It's planned that the balloon envelope will be the largest, hot-air balloon ever built with over 70 metres in height.

3. To build the Fedor Konyukhov's Village.

Fedor is planning to create a unique and cosy place for life and communication of like-minded people: travellers, writers, artists tired of the “stone jungle”, lovers of an active lifestyle and wildlife.

The list of further plans does not end here. So we are waiting for new unprecedented expeditions and new records set by Fedor Konyukhov.

Summing Up

It is difficult to imagine how this great researcher feels when he is alone with the ocean for more than 50 days, when he climbs to the highest peaks of the planet, when he flies around the world in a balloon.

Perhaps the experience of Konyukhov may be useful for us in our everyday life. After all, nothing will teach you to cope with difficulties better than the vast ocean or unimaginable cold.
