George Steinbrenner - A Tribute to a Legendary Owner
The Legendary Yankee Owners Dies At Age 80
Yesterday, July 13, 2010, we were all saddened to hear the death of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner at age 80. Steinbrenner bought the New York Yankees in 1973 for just over $10 million. The Yankees are now worth $1.6 billion. Steinbrenner is famous for his hands on approach of running one of the greatest franchises in professional sports. During his tenure, the Yankees won seven World Series Championships, eleven American League Championships, and sixteen American League East Division titles. This hub will homage to a great man in a slightly different way. During the nine year run of Seinfeld on NBC, George Costanza works for the New York Yankees. Costanza had many classic conversations with "The Boss". I did not realize until researching this article that the man who provided the George Steinbrenner voice is that of Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm producer and star, Larry David. So, when you think of the Yankees and "The Boss", why not think of his interactions with George Costanza. We will all miss one of the legendary figures of sports in George Steinbrenner. May you rest in peace and our thoughts and prayers are with the Steinbrenner family.
