Greatest Basketball Player Of All Time: Jordan Or Lebron?
Michael Jordan and Lebron James, two of the most dominant athletes of all time. Although they are both amazing, their will always be the argument about who is better. It is very hard for me to voice my opinion in this debate because I am a fairly new basketball fan but numbers do not lie. I will be looking at the stats of both players and comparing to see who is truly the GOAT.
When talking about the Jordan vs. LeBron argument, the main thing that comes up is that Jordan won six NBA championships while not losing any. While this stat is very historic, LeBron has taken his team to the Championship seven consecutive years. Although he's only won three he has still dominated the eastern conference for more than a decade. Another thing to look at with Jordan is that the Bulls did not struggle at all when he left to pursue baseball. If LeBron would have left the Cavs before last season they would have been an early playoff exit.
Other than the NBA finals, it is hard to see how anybody could think that Jordan is a better player than LeBron. Michael Jordan is the most dynamic scorer in NBA history and I'll admit that. What I won't admit though is that Jordan is a better overall player than LeBron. Not only can Lebron play and guard every position on the floor he can also pass, rebound and play defense with the best of them. We have also never seen a player with the same skill set and play type as LeBron. I'm not saying Kobe Bryant is as good as Michael Jordan and I know he based his play style off of Jordan but he was very successful replicating Jordan. For somebody to try to replicate LeBron, they would have to be an absolute freak of nature.
Another big thing LeBron has on Jordan is statistics. LeBron has more career assists and rebounds than Michael Jordan. Jordan does have a slight edge in steals and blocks but LeBron will easily pass him. Jordan also has more points than LeBron but at age 32 LeBron is averaging over 28 point per game and it seems like he is only getting better. LeBron should easily be able to pass Jordan by the time he retires. With the numbers as close as they are it is hard to see how LeBron won't manage to pass Jordan in nearly every statistic.
It is truly hard to pick which one is the greatest player ever because some people focus so much on championships but I am not that kind of person. I would rather focus on the individual aspects of a players game than the team effort but that is just me. Jordan is and always will be the most dynamic scorer of all time but that does not mean he is the best OVERALL player of all time. He averaged just over 30 points per game for his career which is absolutely ridiculous but there are plenty of stats other than points per game. Hopefully some of the things I stated above will help people think more about the value of both players. Of course everybody has their own opinion and it is and always will be a fun topic of conversation in the sporting world.
