Lebanon SkatePark Project

Many of you know how I feel about children.

Here in Lebanon, Missouri, we have had many senseless deaths of teens lately. I have heard that teens just don't have much to do. As I looked around, I discovered they are right.

We are in the Ozarks with many dangerous back roads and kids are out cruising and wrecks happen constantly.

We were discussing all of this on our local forum and it came to me that I see many teens carrying skateboards around.

"How about a skate park", I mentioned. I was told that we already have one, so I jumped in my truck and drove down to see this skate park.

How anyone could call that a skate park just threw me. I just can't explain it so I am putting some of the pictures of this junkyard, I mean skate park below.

My middle son who is in Chicago was an avid skateboarder and I would be embarrassed to show him this.

The Frog Leaped

After seeing this, my anger hit me. I come by my nickname for a reason; Froggy's leap and that is exactly what I did. Thing is, I wasn't the only frog.

The park board meeting was scheduled for the next week and I made and posted that I was going. When I arrived at their meeting place there were 4 skaters and a juvenile probation officer,

We were accepted quite well.

The park board has agreed to put a substantial portion of funds to this as long as we agree to raise the rest.

This frog dreams big and I would like a skate park that will make pro's mouths water.

We have some very talented skaters here as you will see from the videos I am posting at the end of this.

We have formed a committee and are having a meeting this week. Persistence pays!!

I have made a web site for this project(link is below). We also have a Facebook site on it.

I ask your prayers and if you would like to help with ideas or even cash, just contact me through any of these sites.

I believe that we can make the best skate park in Missouri and bring revenue into Lebanon in doing so. There can be tournaments and who knows, maybe the great Tony Hawk or one of the other great pros will see this and get involved.

Please pray that we can see this through because children ARE the future!

Thanks to both of you sweeties.

You really don't know how much your kind words mean to me.

I have at times wondered what I got myself in to--but a satisfying bunch of stress it is!!!

That's wonderful, as you are..I am so proud of you...

We had a similar situation here and the kids got together and helped raise money also, car washes etc.

I am sure you know it is also a rule to wear helmets, if course I see way too many NOT wearing them and have also seen ambulances there a few times...also graffiti but they just keep painting over it..We also built a dirt track for bicylces to do their thing on, although they seem to have joined the skateboarders now..

Sometimes when me and mom go for a ride, I take her there to watch...although all teens don't skateboard it is good for the ones that do, not only for exercise but to build their confidence...I have watched youngster begin and become very good at it...but then they want a bigger and better park...Good Luck to you and the kids it is a noble thing you do...:O) Hugs & Prayers
