Houston Texans’ All-Time Receiving Yardage Leaders
The Houston Texans have been an NFL franchise since 2002, and while the team has yet to make the playoffs, they have been competitive the last few seasons as I write this in 2009. One reason is the emergence of wide receiver Andre Johnson, as arguably the best pass catcher in the game. And since the Texans have only played seven seasons to date, we’ll look at just the Top 5 in receiving yards for this young franchise:
Andre Johnson (6379)—Johnson is a beast of a receiver, the kind of player who could be bound for the Hall of Fame if he keeps putting up big numbers. It will be interesting to see how long he stays in Houston, or if he will test the free agent waters when eligible. Johnson not surprisingly leads the Texans all-time with 6379 receiving yards, and he’s been with the team since 2003. Johnson has made the Pro Bowl three times, including as a first team All Pro in 2008, his best season so far. That season, Johnson had career highs in receptions (115) and receiving yards (1575), both of which led the NFL, as well as 8 touchdown catches, also a career best.
Jabar Gaffney (2009)—Jabar Gaffney began his career in Houston in 2002, and played there until 2005 before signing with the Patriots. Gaffney is an effective, if not flashy, player, and he ranks second in Texans’ history with 2009 receiving yards. His best season in Houston was 2004, when Gaffney caught 41 passes for a career high 632 yards with 2 touchdowns.
Corey Bradford (1992)—Corey Bradford played for three NFL teams during his relatively brief eight-year career, including for the Texans from 2002 to 2005. Bradford ranks third in team history with 1992 receiving yards, and his best season was in a Texans’ uniform in 2002. That year, Bradford had career highs in receptions (45), receiving yards (697) and touchdown catches (6).
Owen Daniels (1982)—Tight end Owen Daniels has only played for the Texans for three seasons to date, from 2006 until now, but he already ranks fourth in franchise history with 1982 receiving yards. Daniels’ came of age in 2008, when he made the Pro Bowl by having his best season—career highs in receptions (70) and receiving yards (862) with 2 touchdown catches.
Kevin Walter (1859)—Kevin Walter began his career in Cincinnati but has played for the Texans since 2006, and already ranks fifth in the team’s history with 1859 receiving yards. Walter also had his best season in 2008, catching 60 passes for career highs in receiving yards (899) and touchdowns (8).
