Cheap Ways To Save
When you are ready to visit a water park, it is a good idea to call ahead to see if there are cheaper days to go to the park and see if they give discounts to children, groups, seniors and military discounts. Also, it is good to use the internet to your advantage and look at the water park's website for certain park specials and discounts such as 50% off and buy one, get one, free! Local fast-food restaurants may give out coupons for the park. Also, coca cola has been known to provide coupons on their packaging as well. Coupons from the parks themselves will be the cheapest route and using the internet to get these discounts is the easiest way to go. Getting multiple day discounts are usually given by the park itself.
Accommodations: I know that it's tempting to want to stay close to the park for convenience maybe or to be in on the action at the park. To save additional money, you can stay about four miles away and still get in on the action. There are usually things to do near the hotel. These rooms are usually cheaper. A cheaper way is to stay in a water park resort. This is a more all inclusive way to vacation and you can go from the pool and private lazy river and many other entertaining things, right to your room. Be sure to research the area if you are not familiar with where you are going to see what attractions if any, are near by. This will let you know how to plant your trip better.
I Gotta Eat!! The park will charge you to park again if you leave and most all water parks do not allow food to be brought in. You will want to check ahead of time and make sure that you can bring foot in. This is based on a eight to ten hour trip to the water park. This will average our family about three trips to the car. Bringing your own food is a real money favor. We have found ways to keep our burgers, hot dogs and BBQ sandwiches hot, for up to four hours after being cooked with the help of some good aluminum foil. Obviously, it's a no brainer to pack some snacks. It is good to bring chips, peanuts, candy and gum. This will give you quick energy and a break from the sun. If you must get drinks inside the water park, look for the drink specials such as a souvenir cup. This will tend to seem more expensive in the beginning but, will save you money in the long run because, you can get free refills the day that you purchase the drink.
Cooler I recommend a styrofoam cooler. This will keep the ice from melting while you enjoy your time. This is also a great place to put the lettuce, mayonnaise and cheese for the sandwiches. To make things easier, bring packs of ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard. Bring all the fixings for hotdogs. Little plastic containers are good to bring relish and sour kraut, onions, cheese, lettuce To drink bring plenty of water, sodas, Kool-Aid and tea.
Extras A good trick to save money as well is to bring plenty of sunscreen because at these water parks, it is very expensive. When you go back out to the car, be sure to re-apply the sunscreen. This will give you extra protection against the sun. Another trick that we use is if you have someone that doesn't want to ride but, just wants to lay out and read or just relax, they can bring in the bag with sunscreen, camera, and towels. If you bring your own towels and you have someone to watch your things, you will not have to rent a locker.
Buying a seasonal parking pass will knock off 50% of the parking fee. This will also you have unlimited access to come and go in and out of the park. It is a big deal to be able to leave the park to go eat at a fast food restaurant down the street, if you don't happen to bring food to eat throughout the day.
Go shopping before hand to get key items that are needed for the trip. A quick trip to the dollar store to get goggles and sunglasses. This way if the goggles and sunglasses get left behind, stolen or sat on accidentally, it would be nice to know that you only paid one dollar for each item. Plus, this is a good place to get unique snacks. The packaging is not as large but, you can find stuff at the dollar store that you can't find any where else and this qualifies for their hard candy as well. You have to see it to believe it.
