Instant Replay In Little League World Series!

Updated on August 24, 2008

I cannot believe it. ESPN cameras will provide the instant replay system for this years Little League World series(LLWS) in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. According to sources it will be used on a limited basis in a trial run. It's use will be re-evaluated at the end of the season.

What is interesting about the instant replay move is that the WWLS already employs 6 umpires for the championship game. Along with this is the homerun fences are less than 300 feet. I don't understand that 6 professionals can't handle the call but I'm at least open minded to this change.

One thing instant replay will not do is change how baseball scorekeepers keep score in the scorecards. If instant replay is used and a play is reversed by it, you will want to make note of it in the baseball scoresheet

In the appropriate location on the baseball scorecard enter "IR" to note the call was reversed by Instant Replay. I also recommend entering a footnote at the bottom of the scorecard to fully description the situation.

Well, good luck to all of you on your favorite Little League team winning it all.
