Is Derrick Rose the next Michael Jordan?

The similarities have to be recognized. Slam dunks, championship potential, MVP status. Derrick Rose plays a great game.

His game leaves you in awe the same way Michael Jordan once did.

The Chicago Bulls are having a winning season once again. Chicago is ready with a shot to the championship.

Who can stop Derrick Rose with the likes of another superstar? A humbly man with the MVP award, the youngest player in the league to capture this title.

Derrick Rose is climbing to the top.

It’s been over 10 years since the Chicago Bulls won their last NBA championship. Not since the days of Michael Jordan’s Bulls has such a fever been dispatched around the city.

Chicago now has their eye on Derrick Rose just like they did with Michael Jordan.

The 2011 NBA playoffs are encouraging fans in Chicago for another big championship win.

What a dream season for Chicago, the fans are again wearing the red. People lined up at the United Center to get their playoff tickets. The news reported tickets sales are up with someone paying $1200 for 4 tickets. This is Chicago, and Chicago supports their beloved Bulls.

Derrick Rose is the first All-Star starter since Michael Jordan. Born and raised in Chicago and playing for his home team, Derrick, like Michael, is leading the Bulls to another winning season.

Michael Jordan had the 3-point shot, the slam dunk hook and the winning tongued face. Rose fuels the team with his winning sneers and another slam dunk; just try to stop him. Coming up through center court, he rushes like a great running back.

He has some impressive career high stats and it’s just the beginning.

Drafted in the 1st round picks by Chicago in 2008, Derrick is throwing the ball for the Bulls into another great victory.

All eyes are watching this young man. At 22 years old, Derrick is having a great 2010-11 season. This is his year and he has been leading the Bulls for the past 3 seasons.

Derrick Rose would be the youngest MVP in the NBA franchise history.

In a recent game against the Bucks, Derrick Rose had 30 points with 17 assists along the likes of Michael Jordan who had an impressive 34 points and 17 assists back in March of 89 against the Trailblazers.

There has not been any Bull’s player since Jordan to score 30 or more points, and 15 or more assists during a game, until Derrick Rose.

A 72-10 Season

For the fans, the unforgettable 6 titles the Bulls have under their belt go on record as being the ultimate team. Having won three straight in a row in 1991, 92, 93 then again winning another three straight in 1996, 97, and 98 the enthusiasts appreciate basketball watching these Chicago Bulls.

With the best stats of all time, winning a record breaking 72 wins during a season, the Chicago Bulls are unstoppable.

As part of the ’92 World Olympics, the U.S basketball Dream Team; consisted of Michael Jordan, along with Scottie Pippen, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Shaquille O’Neal, and Charles Barkley, took home the Gold.

The 2010 US basketball Olympic Team recognized as one of the best and has been referred to as the Dream Team II included Derrick Rose whereas LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and company sat out. However the former known "B" team took home the Gold once again.

Did you know it took Michael Jordan 7 years of playing basketball for the Chicago Bulls before he won his first Championship?

The Bull’s legend was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2009.

He quickly became a crowd favorite playing 13 seasons with the Bulls.

His stats are impressive with five-time MVP, 14-time NBA All-Star and winning six NBA championships.

Michael Jordan’s number 23 was retired in 1994 upon his returning he played with number 45. The fans spoke out.

NBA resurrected number 23 then later a second retirement was announced in 1999.

Where would the Bulls be without Derrick Rose? With an attitude of a champion, he makes the team play better. The team is stepping up and the bench is playing hard.

Motivated by his mom, Derrick Rose has said, she is the reason he plays the way he does. Michael Jordan had his father in his corner and Derrick Rose has his mother standing in his court.

Successful people, without a doubt, always will have someone supporting them.

So what are the qualifications for an MVP? It is more than just stats. Driven, yet never satisfied he cares about his team. His strength, his attitude, his leadership, and with his fantastic plays, Derrick has the stuff champions are made of.

He epitomizes the virtuoso’s nature of success.

All About Chicago

Why I love Chicago - Chicago, Illinois the great windy city, famous for deep dishpan pizza, notorious gangsters, great architecture and panoramic skyline views.

Things to do and see in Chicago - There are a lot of things to see and do in Chicago. Summer is my favorite time of the year..

On March 12, 2011, Chicago honored the 20th anniversary of the Bulls during a Halftime Show.

Joined by former teammate Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan came out to honor and to celebrate their beloved Bulls.

During the ceremonies Michael Jordan said, "You are in store for a lot other championships. If you look at this team tonight, don't be surprised, if you don't have 6 more coming."

Comparing Derrick Rose against Michael Jordan may be about winning but it is also about how legends are made.

Michael Jordan is considered to be one of the greatest athletes of all time and certainly Derrick Rose has the ability to rise to that challenge.

He is definitely standing in the shadow of a giant but I believe he has what it takes to become the next, best All-star in the world of Basketball.

With career highs and stats impressing basketball fans, he is being compared to the great Michael Jordan.

This is Derrick’s third season, having gone to the playoffs before, he recently said, “Let’s just get past this first round.”

This is what legends are made of.

I definitely think he deserves the MVP award this year. I was surprised to find out that he will be the youngest to win the award if he wins it this year.

Great Hub. I am cheering for the Bulls this year since the Phoenix Suns didn't make the playoffs. Rose should get MVP this year as well. Make sure you get to a Bulls playoff game.

Thanks kcreery.. Won't be able to make it to a playoff game, but Chicago is ready to take this on & Chi-town loves D.Rose.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and comments, appreciate it.

Nice hub. Rose obviously has a different game than Jordan. The most important thing they share, though, is their competetive spirit. Both had an incredible will to win, fearlessness in the crunch, and were gifted with amazing athletic ability. Derrick Rose goes into attack mode and finishes game like no other in the NBA today. The only who has come close to Rose in that regard since the Jordan era was Kobe. Rose is a very special player, and I have no problem with the Jordan comparisons as far as that competetive edge, and performance in the crunch goes at this stage in his career.

I don't think DR has the postup game that gave MJ the longevity to his career.

Thank you Recreation Writer. I agree the spirit they share is competitive and fearless. However you got to admire Rose's intensity in the game. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you Paul. I appreciate your comments. That may be true. I'm a big fan of Michael Jordan, I believe he is one of the greatest athletes in basketball. D.Rose is fierce and he is on the cutting edge, in my opinion. A young athlete with great potential. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. always appreciative.

I appreciate his presence because Derrick Rose gives me a reason to follow Bulls basketball. I have never been a of Jordan. Derrick's talent level is very close to Jordan's and he is much quicker that MJ every was. The most thing I like about Derrick Rose is that he's so humble. He shows that one can be great yet always practice humility. Go Magic, though!

Thanks for sharing Kevin, nicely said. Derrick Rose has the potential and the fire. Watching him blaze through to get that dunk is incredible.

      Appreciate the comments, thanks.

I have to say we have a little more to see from the first time MVP before we ask that question, but similarities...I do see them; but I need to see a few more MVP's and a Finals ring around his finger before I give him even a shot at being the "next".

Thanks for commenting James. I appreciate you adding to this topic. I believe Derrick Rose has what it takes. Although Michael Jordan is a living legend and those are some big footprints to fill, D.Rose is well on his way to achieving greatness.

No one is the next Michael Jordan! Derrick Rose is the next...Derrick Rose. It will be nice to see Chicago take another title - and maybe more - during his career.

PS I like the pictures in your hub!

Derrick Rose is an animal! With how young he is and the amount of talent that he has I wouldn't be surprised if he were to challenge Michael Jordan's greatness. Thanks for the article. I especially enjoyed the top ten video of D-Rose.

Not until he can go "ISO" and win a playoff game in the closing seconds. He is still young and has made in further in the playoffs than MJ did at his age. He definitely has the potential to be great but needs to improve his shooting

Thanks for commenting Kennys, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Thank you bayer2 for adding your thoughts as well.

It is disappointing that the Bulls didn't take this down. After such a great season and all the potential the team had it was a let down to the fans.

MJ is hard to touch, but I still believe in D.Rose and the Bulls.

Yes! He has the fire as Michael showed the world, but he is NOT the next Jordan. One can merely admire D. Rose's skills and sit back in aw, but there is only 1 Jordan! As much as Kobe wants to get that ring to surpass Mike, it still won't matter, when you think basketball, you think MJ!

Rose is the next superstar to think of. the point gurad went as far as Johnson, and that was because he was huge. today's Point guards are and will not be the same a d.rose. the kid can run, jump, fly, cut, and now shoot...at 23, ironic. But just watch he will change the game in a different way but still change like Micheal did. you don't see that type of will in 99.99% of people, let alone athletes

I think Derrick Rose is the best point guard in the NBA right now. I don't think we can compare the two players yet because ultimately D. Rose's success will be defined by championship rings and at this point he has zero. I'm from Chicago and I am expecting a championship this year. Lets hope for the best. Thanks for the hub.

Armin, I agree with your comment. It's hard to compare the two players equally especially since MJ is in a league of his own. I too would love to have a championship this year! I believe D. Rose is on his way to greatness though as long as he can keep those injuries away.

      Thanks for commenting.

I still think Chris Paul is the best point guard in the NBA. Just the way he makes ANY offense flow is amazing. No doubt though, Derrick Rose is a beast and definitely has the talent to lead his team to a NBA title.

Get your facts straight man, Derrick Rose never played with Lebron, Kobe etc. on an International team.

@FaithDream...There is only one Michael Jordan. And there is only one Derrick Rose. There are several teams that are fun to watch this season. The Bulls are definitely one. When healthy, Rose makes the Bulls go and he may be the best point guard in the game today, but his name is still Rose.

He's the next great Derrick Rose...that's it. I"m from NC and like Chris Paul as a guard, but look at his surrounding teammates. They can control the game with or without him.

The caliber of players today have changed since MJ, Magic and Larry was in the league, and the Bulls have a good chance to make a run. Derrick Rose can change a game the way MJ did...inside and outside, and he has a supporting cast that can make shots when they count. I'm a die hard fan to the end. We will see what happens in the playoffs.

Derrick Rose will be lucky to be Scottie Pippen.

While there is nothing wrong with comparing Derrick Rose to Michael, there is no way that Rose could be the next Micheal Jordan because Michael played in a time when it was a more physical and the refs let the players play. Derrick Rose is great, but that is as far as it should go.
