Is Kaepernick worth 18 million a season?

Updated on May 31, 2014

Running QB

Colin Kaepernick is the first running QB in SF since Steve Young. His ability to take off and gain big yards keeps the defense on edge. The read-option gives Colin an advantage over most defenses. Not only can he outrun most defenses but he has a great arm. He was a pitcher in high school and it shows on the football field with powerful passes. Colin can easily toss 30 plus touchdowns a season with his ability to move around in the pocket. The 2013 season was a big test for Kap. He had to begin the season without Crabtree and continued the season with more WR's getting injured. He made plays with his legs and luckily he had Boldin an offseason acquisition to make big catches during the season.

What Kaepernick has brought to SF

: read-option

: Super Bowl appearance

: ability to make plays with his feet

: strong arm

: back to back NFC championship games ( won one, lost one )

Low salary for a starting QB

During this offseason the Niners made a trade with Jacksonville to get Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert is due to get more money than starting QB Kaepernick! Kaepernick is way underpaId by all measures. Colin has stated he wants 18 million a season! Is he worth it? Not sure but he is in need a big pay raise. When a team has a QB that is a game changer and can lead a team to the playoffs, it's time to pay them. As a diehard Niner fan I want him to stick around but believe at this time he's more of a 10 to 12 million QB. Once he gets his contract extension he will have to work hard to live up to its worth. I believe he has the tools, mechanics, coaches and teammates that will allow him to be a legend in SF!

2014 Season

With this years draft and offseason acquisitions will improve the Niners depth problems from the season before. There's no doubt that the Niners will be playoff bound and hopefully end the season with a Super Bowl victory led by Colin.

He is worth way more than 18 million. He brings a lot to the team and the city. You want to look at the entire package. He's one of the most popular players in the NFL.

      Great hub by the way!!

If Romo and Cutler can get big bucks so should Kaepernick. He will get paid
