5 Reasons Why Jose Mourinho Is The Right man for Chelsea

Updated on November 11, 2015

Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge

Jose Mourinho is the most successful manager in Chelsea history. He has won them a number of premier league and FA cup titles. In season 2004 – 2005, he won for them the EPL title in style. Chelsea accumulated the highest number of points ever recorded by an EPL team. 95 points in a single season. This season has been totally different from the expectations of Chelsea fans and rival teams. The results are not pleasing at all. Losing seven matches from the first twelve EPL games. This is Chelsea’s worst performance since season 1978-1979 when they were relegated. They are also out of the Capital one cup. The clubs hopes of defending the title which they won last season are fading. They are already 15 points off the top position and 13 points off the top 4 position meaning that their champions league qualification opportunity is under some serious threat. The Chelsea diehard fans have always expressed their full support for the manager the love. His name was everywhere even in his absence during the Chelsea’s loss to Stoke city at Britannia stadium. Some fans even had masks so as to feel the presence of their man, Mourinho. I truly believe that they see Mourinho, a self proven manager is the only one who can turn things round at Chelsea. He has already won some of the European major trophies with various teams in Europe. Who are we to doubt the Special one?

Mourinho’s Greatest Moments in European Football

Season 2003 – 2004 with Porto

This is the place where Mourinho proved to the world that he is a great manager. He beat some of the Europe’s greatest sides like Manchester United and AS Monaco. Clubs which were spending three times his club’s transfer budget. This proves that Mourinho does not only rely on buying the best players as many rival fans like to argue. He guided Porto to the first treble. They won the UEFA Champions league trophy after beating AS Monaco by three goals to nil. They also won the domestic trophy with a margin of twelve points. This was the time when Chelsea under the owner Roman Abramovich expressed interest in his services.

Season 2009 -2010 with Inter-Milan

In season 2009-2010, Inter-Milan became the first team in Serie A to win the treble. They won the Serie A, UEFA Champions league and Coppa Italia. They also beat some the Europe’s best sides like Barcelona. In the final game against Bayern Munich at Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, hey won the game within the regular time by two goals to nil.

Season 2011-2012 with Real Madrid

This was another great season for Mourinho and Real Madrid. They won the La liga trophy in style. A record number of 100 points and 121 goals. A record goal margin of 89.

Recent struggles

This season has been totally different for the happy one. Losing 7 games in the first 12 games is just unbelievable. He has also had a hard time with FA. The have charged him with misconduct on a number of occasions. He suspended from attending the Chelsea game against Stoke City at Britannia stadium where Chelsea lost by one goal to nil. He was also fined $40,000. Chelsea are currently languishing at position 16 just three points above the relegation zone. So what could be the reasons behind this recent struggle?

Probable reasons for the recent poor performance

Some of the reliable players are past their prime

Chelsea relied on players like John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic in their last season EPL glory. They were Chelsea’s strongest pillars last season. These players have however struggled for form this season. They have struggled in some of the important games like against Manchester city where they lost by 3 goals to nil and during a draw against Swansea City. Ivanovic has been directly culpable for a number of goals this season. They have become Chelsea’s weak links this season and the teams are taking advantage of this. Currently, Chelsea has a goal difference of -7.

Most of the first team players are in poor form

Chelsea relied on players like Eden Hazard and Diego Costa in the last EPL season. They scored some of the most important goals for the team last season. Eden Hazard creativity and magic made it possible for Chelsea to unlock some of the meanest defenses in the EPL. Diego Costa was always a threat to defense and goal keepers. This season, they have struggled. This has forced Mourinho to either leave them on the bench or substitute them. Nemanja Matic was one of the most reliable players for Chelsea last season. He fully shielded the centre backs from attacks and was pivotal during counter attacks. Cesc Fabregas created the highest number of goals last season but has been silent this season.

New signings have no impact

New players bring new energy in the team. A manager makes new signings after identifying the team’s weak areas in the previous season. In season 2014 – 2015, Chelsea brought in players like Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas. Their impact was fully felt. They played a major role in winning the trophy last season. This season, Chelsea brought in Radamel Falcao, Baba Rahman, Pedro and Begovic. They have all struggled. They have failed to support the struggling Chelsea players and their impact has not been felt in any way. Chelsea is suffering due to some poor decisions made during the transfer window.

The other EPL teams have improved.

Competition for EPL title gets stiffer season by season. Competition always begins with the opening of the transfer window. Manchester City signed players like Raheem Sterling from Liverpool, Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg. These players have had a great impact on City’s performance this season. Kevin De Bruyne has scored some of the most important assists like during the game against Norwich when they won by 1 goal to nil. He has also scored 3 important goals for City so far this season. Manchester united acquired the services of sensational player, Anthony Martial. He has also scored some of the seasons important goals for united. He has pace, is consistent and energetic.
