Lindsey Vonn - Champion Skier Latest News

Updated on January 25, 2017

Lindsey Vonn Olympic Games

Lindsey Caroline Vonn will compete in the Winter Olympics and will certainly be one of the American athletics that is expected to win in alpine skiing. Her past career is amazing.

There has been controversy over Lindsy's pose on the cover of Sports Illustrated being "too sexy". Usually those criticisms are saved for the swimsuit issue. Women are only featured on their cover about 4-6% of the time. Yes, she has on a a skin tight suit for skiing and is crouched down, but I hardly see that as an objectification of women. It seem much ado about nothing. She's a beautiful girl and she can ski like few others.

Lindsey's Background

Lindsey (Kidrow) Vonn was born in October 18, 1984 in St. Paul, Minnesota and raised in Twin Cities. She was on skies by the age of two. She moved into Erick Sailer's renowned development program at Buck Hill. .

In her early career she became the first American to at Italy's Trofeo Topolino for skiers age 11-14. After moving up the ranks of the U S Ski Team she made her World Cup debut at age 16. It has all been uphill from there. In 2004, Vonn was the downhill silver medalist at the U S Alpine Championship held in Jackson, Wyoming. In December of that year she claimed the World Cup for downhill victory in Alberta, then went on to win 5 more World Cups.

Unfortunately in winter 2006, at the Olympics she crashed while training and was helicoptered to the nearest hospital where she was hospitalized overnight. Despite a bruised hip she competed and came in 8th. She earned the U S Olympic Spirit Award for this tragedy. She's won numerous other awards and again won the World Cup in 2008, and is only the second woman to achieve this goal. She has exceeded in breaking the fastest records over other champion skiers.

She has suffered injuries and fought on continuously. In December, 2009, she fell and sustained a bruised wrist, but no break, however, she has continued to train with her arm in a brace, and has won 3 more races. This places her in second place among American skiers on the all time career list for World Cups with 28 wins, passing Phil Mahre (27 wins). She married fellow Olympian and former US Ski Team athlete Thomas Vonn on September 29, 2007.

She is under scrutiny by other coaches about her injury and her weight, She is 5'10" tall at 160 pounds of pure muscle. That sounds fine considering her height. She is reported to be handling all this scrutiny with ease and says the scrutiny motivates her.. After all, other coaches hardly have her best interest at heart. Plus, she just skied in Austria and was on top her game. The US Olympic Team is expecting her to be a winner.

As for the people that think her picture is too sexy, I saw grow up! Jealousy may be the root in the naysayers hearts that make these asinine remarks.

Latest Happenings for Lindsy Vonn

Lindsy won the Gold Metal at the 2010 Winter Games, after a series of injuries to her shin, little finger and arm. She stated this was the roughest year she has experienced as a skier with regard to injuries. In addition to the Gold Metal, she won her third consecutive FIS World Cup title. Lindsy enjoys several strong sponsorships, which make it possible for her to complete at the top level competitions.

Lindsy's luck has not held out over the past years. She did win the Silver at the Alpine Competition in Germany, but the next day in a training accident she suffered a concussion, which took her out of the competition. While the doctors cleared her to race in Friday's World Cup slalom, she decided to rest.

Another huge problem for Lindsey that plague many athletics is she owes back taxes. Many busy people that are athletics end up in the position, as they rely on someone else to manage their finances. Lindsey had to pay $1.7 million in back taxes. The money owed was for 2010, and she had no idea she owed the money until being contacted by the IRS. She immediately paid the money and considered this situation a well-learned lesson.

Summary

Lindsey and her husband have divorced, but she has worked hard to stay in the best possible shape for skiing. She owns a home in Vail, Colorado and is happy. We will surely be seeing more of her in the news.I admire that spirit which make her a famous women in the sports world..

I think it's great that she has her attitude and is ok with showing it off.

She's a great looking woman. She's not a skinny anorexic super model. She actually looks like a woman. She has talent. I think she's a great roll model for young girls today. If they see this as the perfect body, rather than purge, or not eat, they would want the athletic look. Which to me is the best look. :)

She's pretty awesome, but Julie Mancuso has seriously stolen my heart. Her 2 silver performances were spectacular and she has a lot of personality.

I was watched and I was thrilled. She actually came across the finish on one ski as she was in so much pain for her shin injury. Now that is a woman that fought hard and deserves the Gold Medal!

Great Hub! I think all beautiful women in any sport get a lot of press. It's just because they're beautiful and sex sells news. It's obviously a slow day from news. Great story!

Wow; she is definitely a doll but you know how Sara Palin was treated; mostly because she was conservative but I think also because she is also nice to look at.

Look at at the Liberal women in politics and you'll understand the bias!
