Lionel Messi has given all Barcelona supporters an early Christmas present by signing a contract to stay at the club until 2018.

The prolific Argentinian goalscorer who recently broke the record for most goals scored in a calendar year agreed to extend his contract for an additional 2 years.

Lionel Messi has already enjoyed plenty of success at FC Barcelona as he looks to extend his individual and team's achievements. Messi has scored a total of 287 goals for Barcelona helping them win five La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies and a whole list of trophies including the Club World Cup (2) and the Copa Del Rey (2).

In addition to Messi's Christmas present, teammates Carlos Puyol and Xavi Hernandez have contributed by extending their playing contracts until 2016. These three Barcelona champions grew up playing together in Barcelona's famous youth academy.

With plenty more Messi-filled Barcelona days to come, we all look forward to see how many more titles and goals Lionel Messi is able to achieve.
