MVP Kobe Bryant

Updated on April 14, 2008

Most Valuable Player: 1. Kobe Bryant, Lakers; 2. Chris Paul, Hornets; 3. LeBron James, Cavaliers; 4. Kevin Garnett, Celtics; 5. Amare Stoudemire, Suns

I still haven't sent this one back to the league, but I am pretty sure I am done changing my mind. I have gone back and forth for the past month. James had my vote for most of that time, but I can't justify giving it to a guy whose team has struggled to stay above .500.

I can make winnable defenses for Bryant or Paul, but the ballot says I have to pick one. So I threw out the statistics. Both have put up ridiculous numbers. I don't care, either, that Bryant has never won the award. It's not a lifetime achievement award.

And the fact that Bryant outplayed Paul on Saturday was not a factor.

For me, this came down one undeniable fact -- Bryant has been the better player this season. You look at his production, you look at all the defensive obstacles he has to fight to get that production, you look at the fact that his team leads the West -- game, set, match
