What Is Mixed Martial Arts?

Mixed Martial Arts is a fast past full contact combat sport, where two combatants go face to face using martial art techniques, to win the fight. MMA fighters where small gloves, and they are able to use throws, punches, kicks (low,High) and grappling movements to win a fight. In order for an MMA fighter to be successful he must be adequate in all aspects of the game. The UFC is the most popular mma organization, but there are others, like Bellator, and strike force.

The Stand Up Game

All MMA and UFC fights start standing, where the two fighters leave there respected corner and meet in the center of the cage. Punching, Kicking, Throws, and clinch work are necessary, in fact you can win a fight with a KO; kick, punch, Knee and sometimes a propper Judo Throw.

The Ground Game

Jiu Jitsu is a submission focused martial art that uses leverage and technique over size and power to win the fight.

A mixed martial arts fighter may use the clinch to set up other techniques, or to tire and wear down there opponent.

The Ground And Pound game is exactly what it sounds like. Some fighters main strategy is to take the fighter to the ground and use strikes, not submissions to win the fight.

The ground game is very important in a mixed martial art competition, because most fights do end up on the ground. a great ground fighter will use his clinch skills to take the fight to the ground and win VIA submission. A ground fighters only purpose is to take the fight to the ground and control his opponent with, wrestling, jiujitsu, or judo style techniques.

      i absolutely love mma. Chuck Liddel was an amazing fighter. like you said he had a great take down defense. i think alot of fighters now have looked at his style and have seen just how effective he was.
