Mountain Hiking in Seoul
The Achansan Mountain
South Korea has a tremendous trail for mountain hiking being a mountainous country. In Seoul itself, mountain hiking is just within the vicinity of the city. Some of the most popular mountain is Mt. Bukhansan, Mt Dobongsan, Mt. Suraksan, Mt. Umyeonsan, Mt. Yongmansan, Mt. Achansan and Mt. Namsan. These mountains attract a large number of hikers because of its unique beauty. Having a glimpse on its natural scenery is a breathtaking experience.
Last summer, I had this one of a kind mountain hiking experience at Mt. Achansan; all my life this is my first time I did hiking haha. I got there with my Korean officemates. It is a great unique experience trailing the stiff landscape of the mountain. There are a lot of stone formations that I was afraid of stepping to it because it looks like so dangerous but seeing other people enjoying the trail gave me the power to do the same and I did it very well, thanks to my snicker it didn’t allowed me to slide, I got one though haha, just a slight one.
How to Get There: Take Subway Line 5 to Achasan Station (Exit 2) → Turn left at the first intersection → Walk ahead and turn right at the dead-end three-way intersection → Walk for about 200 meters → Walk by Hwayangsa Temple and you will see the Daeseongam Entrance, which leads to the mountain.
Required time: It takes about one hour to go up and down the summit of Mt. Achasan. If you plan to start at Mt. Achasan and climb down Mt. Yongmasan, it will take about 2 to 2 and a half hour.
