My Top 5 Best Basketball Players of All-Time
Number 1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
For me, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar runs away with this. In a Career that lasted 20 years, He scored 38,387 points (1st all-time) he got 17,440 rebounds (3rd all-time) and he blocked 3,189 shots (3rd all-time).
He won five championships with the L.A. Lakers and one with the Milwaukee Bucks. His number (33) is retired by both the Bucks and the Lakers. He also has the most NBA regular-season MVP awards (6)
He possessed the most unstoppable shot in the history of basketball, the sky hook. There is no doubt that he is the best centre of all-time and in my opinion, he is the best player ever to play the game of basketball
Number 2. Wilt Chamberlin
Wilt was the greatest stat sheet stuffer in the history of the NBA. He is a 4 time MVP, 7 time All-NBA first team, 7 time scoring champion and 11 time rebounding champion.
He is most famous for holding the record for the most points in an NBA game.He scored 100 points against the New York Knicks. He also is the only player to average over 40 points in a season (twice: 50.4, 44.8)
He ran the 100-yard dash in 10.9 seconds, shot-putted 17 metres, triple jumped more than 16 metres, and won the high jump in the Big Eight track and field championships three straight years.
The reason why I have him below Abdul-Jabbar is the fact that he only has 2 rings compared to Kareem's 6. This, along with the fact Kareem had a longer and more consistent career, are the reasons why i think Wilt Chamberlin is not the greatest player of all time
Number 3. LeBron James
I know most people will not agree with this.
LeBron James is the most physically gifted player ever to play the game of basketball. LeBron is probably the most athletic player ever to play the game and he is also one of the strongest players of all time.
LeBron has won 4 MVP awards in the past 5 years. He can play any of the five positions and he can also guard any of the five positions. His passing ability to go along with his size, athleticism and scoring ability are the reasons why i think that LeBron is the most talented player of all-time. There is one big thing that may stop him from ever becoming the greatest ever.
LeBron is not the best mentally. He has a tendency to fold under pressure. His worst playoff series of his career was potentially the most important one, the 2011 finals to the Mavericks. LeBron also hasn't played up to his regular season greatness in this years NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs
Number 4. Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is considered by many people the be the greatest player of all-time. Most people know what he achieved throughout his career so I will talk about why I put him at number 4.
Michael Jordan was the best player of his era. He was the most "clutch" player ever to play the game of basketball but I don't think he's the best player ever to play the game. Jordan won 6 rings and he won 6 finals MVPs. He did this alongside a top 50 all-time player in Scotty Pippen. Their supporting cast included one of the best rebounders of all-time, Denis Rodman and sharp-shooter Steve Kerr.
MJ didn't win any of these titles by himself. The Bulls were the best team in the NBA at the time. Even without Jordan, the Bulls were a team capable of winning a ring. Jordan get too much credit for winning the 6 rings. Bill Russell has 11 rings and is he in the conversation about the greatest ever?
Why MJ slips to number 4? I could have put him at number 2 behind Kareem but I feel like the two best talents to ever play the game (LeBron and Chamberlin) need to be in the top 3 players
Jorden helped to make basketball what it is today, he has done more for the sport than anybody else. I just don't think that he's the greatest ever
Number 5. Tim Duncan
Another surprise pick. I think that Tim Duncan is the best Power-Forward ever to play the game of basketball. At 37 years old, Duncan is putting up just shy of 20 points and 10 rebounds. He has won 4 rings (3 finals MVPs) and he has two MVP awards.
Duncan doesn't get the praise that he deserves. He can score, rebound and he is one of the best passing big men ever to play the game.
In 10 years time when people are talking about the best players ever to play, I can guarantee you that Tim Duncan will be mentioned in the conversation
Magic Johnson: Was going to put him at no.5 but i decided to go with duncan
Kobe Bryant: The second best player of this generation is also one of the best winners of all-time, was another person who could have been no.5
John Stockton: The all-time assist and steals leader never gets the credit that he deserves, he is arguably the best point guard ever
