NFL Week 14 Recap--My Predictions

Updated on December 14, 2015

Randal Bruce vs ESPN

Randal finished Week 14 at 10-6. That's a nice bounce back after a 5-11 Week 13. I have come back swinging this week. I've won at least 10 games in 3 of the last 4 Weeks. Not bad. Finishing strong baby. I like it. It's so much fun to come out a winner. No duh! I know, but I have to say it. The leaders at ESPN this week are Golic, Hoge, Wickersham and Joyner. They all finished 11-5. Oh, so close this week. Just a game behind the best. I'll take it. Caplan and Carter were the worst at ESPN at 7-9. Overall, I'm 113-95. That's still pretty good in my book. My picks were before the season and they are doing week to week. That's not too shabby on my part. The ESPN overall leader is still Chris Mortensen at 132-76. He's killing it. I can feel good about this strong late push. I'm trailing Eric Allen. He is in last place at ESPN. He's 116-92.

You can see my picks below. There is a link that will lead you to my division by division breakdown and picks and the next link will lead you to ESPN's.

Randal's Picks

My picks are in bold on the away and home columns.

The Cardinals win a close one in a playoff atmosphere in Arizona

The Cardinals are going to be a force in the playoffs. As long as they can keep Carson Palmer healthy. I have to keep saying that because I believe it. I know they can make it without him. They did it last year, but they need him to win in the playoffs. He delivers again in a big game. He passed for 310 yards and 2 TD's. He just keeps rising to the occasion. It seems like he's got a different hot WR every week. This week it was Michael Floyd. Floyd had 5 catches for 102 yards and a TD. They have a wealth of talent at the WR spot. Tedy Bridgewater tried to do his part by passing for 335 yards and a TD. He had the Vikings in field goal range until Dwight Freeney channels his Indy days and gets a strip sack to end the game.

Final Score: Cardinals 23-Vikings 20

I picked the Vikings because i thought they could steal one on the road.

The Redskins keep their division hopes alive by beating the Bears at Soldier Field

This was a big game for both teams. Neither could afford to lose. The Redskins are fighting for the division title while the Bears are trying to keep a slim outside playoff chance alive. Both teams got solid games from their QB's. Kirk Cousins and Jay Cutler both passed for over 300 yards. Redskins TE Jordan Reed was putting on a clinic. He had 9 catches for 120 yards and a TD. He was making plays all over the field. WR Alshon Jeffery was doing the same on the other side for the Bears with 6 catches for 107 yards and a TD. The defenses gave each team enough to win. Neither was great. This game came down to a kick. If Robbie Gould makes a 50 yard kick with 1:45 left in the game, maybe we see OT. He missed and the Bears lose 2 heartbreakers in back to back weeks. Both off of missed kicks by Gould that were factors. The Redskins get a much needed win to stay tied for 1st in the awful NFC East.

Final Score: Redskins 24-Bears 21

I picked the Redskins because I they have owned the Bears lately.

The Bengals get handled by the Steelers and lose Dalton in the process.

This game was painful for the Bengals. Yes, they lost, but they may have lost their season after Andy Dalton broke his thumb. They were having a great season. It may all be derailed now, even if Dalton can come back for the playoffs, he'd be really rusty. I don't want to take anything away from the Steelers. They came in and laid a beat down on the Bengals, just to let the Bengals now that they have to beat them to win this division. The Steelers can be the scariest team in the AFC if they make it. They kept their hopes alive after this huge win. The Bengals are going to see what they have in A.J. McCarron. It's a major opportunity for him. He's got to make the most of it. He won't find himself in a better situation with a team loaded with talent. He was up and down in relief. It will be nice to see how he does with a full week of practice being the guy.

Final Score: Steelers 33-Bengals 20

I picked the Steelers because I thought the Steelers would rise to the occasion.

The Browns get a win over the 49ers with Johnny Manziel playing QB

The Browns win with Johnny Manziel playing QB. Who knew? He needs to play. Is he a knuckle head? Yes, but you still need to see what you have. If you think he can't play, move on. He's gotten enough chances. You aren't playing for anything. The coach would beg to differ, but he needs Manziel to play well because if he does. It means he keeps his job. That's the only way to me that he can save his job. It's been bad. It wasn't all Johnny folks. Isaiah Crowell rushed for 145 yards and 2 TD's. Brian Hartline had 8 catches for 107 yards. The defense held the 49ers to 221 yards. They had 9 sacks. Nate Orchard and Armonty Bryant both had 2 sacks apiece. Desmond Bryant had 1.5 sacks. They owned the 49ers. Maybe Johnny lifts the spirits of his teammates? Or maybe the 49ers just suck. The truth lies in the middle.

Final Score: Browns 24-49ers 10

I picked the 49ers because this game was a toss up and when I picked the 49ers I thought Kapernick would be the QB. I also didn't think he would have regressed as much as did this season. No one did.

The Chiefs win their 7th in a row over a bad Chargers team

The Chiefs are surging to the playoffs. They have won 7 in a row. They just keep finding ways to win. They shut down the Chargers. They held them to only 3 points and less than 300 yards of total offense. They get a goal line stop to end the game. They just gutted out this win. Dee Ford led the charge on defense with 3 sacks and 7 tackles. Before the season, I thought the Chargers would be a very good team. They are a very bad team and there will be changes at the end of the season. They couldn't be more disappointing.

Final Score: Chiefs 10-Chargers 3

I picked the Chiefs because they were at home.

Gurley leads the Rams to a win over the Lions

The Rams finally get another big game from Todd Gurley. Gurley ran for 140 yards and 2 TD's to bring some life back to this awful Rams offense. The Rams got a big game from Aaron Donald as well. He had 3 sacks in this win. The disappointing season for the Lions continue. Like the Chargers, I thought the Lions would have a strong year. They too have struggled and I expect big changes in Detriot. We've seen it already, so there is no reason to not expect more. There should be big changes in St. Louis. They have been terrible under Jeff Fisher for long enough.

Final Score: Rams 21-Lions 14

I picked the Lions before the season because I thought they would be good. I was really wrong.

The Jets deliver a beat down to Titans.

This was a beat down by the Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick tossed 3 TD's. Chris Ivory ran for 101 yards. Brandon Marshall had 6 catches for 125 yards and a TD. Everything was working. The defense held the Titans to under 300 yards of offense. Muhammad Wilkerson had 3 sacks. The Jets are playing well at the right time and trying to grab a Wild Card spot. The Titans are trying to finish the season.

Final Score: Jets 30-Titans 8

I picked the Jets because they were at home. It was a toss up game before the season.

The Eagles get a close win over the Bills to keep pace in the NFC East

The Eagles get a big win over the Bills to stay tied for the lead in the NFC East division. The Bills season is slipping away in the tough AFC playoff picture. This game was all hyped up about the hatred between Chip Kelly and LeSean McCoy. McCoy was a non factor and Chip gets the last laugh because the Eagles won.

Final Score: Eagles 23-Bills 20

I picked the Eagles because they were at home and I thought they had more talent than the Bills.

The Saints end a 4 game losing streak by beating the Bucs in Tampa

This loss hurts the Bucs playoff chances. They were right there in the mix. They still have an outside chance, but its almost impossible with this loss. The Saints are continuing to fight and looking for a strong showing to finish their season. The Bucs will need to regroup and hope for a lot of luck to make the playoffs. I think the Bucs have overachieved with a rookie QB. The Saints have disappointed 2 years in a row. There may be changes in store in New Orleans.

Final Score: Saints 24-Buccaneers 17

I picked the Saints because I didn't expect much from the Bucs this year.

The Panthers destroy the Falcons and are one step closer to home field advantage

Cam Newton stakes his claim for the MVP with another brilliant game. He passed for 3 TD's. The defense shut down the Falcons. They got 5 sacks and 2 INT's. The Falcons only had 230 yards of total offense. The Panthers are soaring. The Falcons are struggling. Especially on offense. It looks like it's curtains for Kyle Shanahan. They won't fire Dan Quinn after 1 season, but there will be changes considering they were 5-0 and are currently 1-7 sense. The defense is awful and that's on Quinn, but the offense's struggles and Matt Ryan's frustration are surprising. The Falcons have always been solid on that side of the ball. Kyle ruins everything he touches.

Final Score: Panthers 38-Falcons 0

I picked the Panthers because they owned the Falcons last year.

The Colts lose ground with a critical loss in a beating by the Jaguars

This was a beating that I didn't know the Jags had in them. They gave the Colts a wood shed beating. This was huge because the Colts don't lose AFC South games. Now the Colts are in a tie with the Texans in this awful division and after this big win all of a sudden the Jags are back in the picture. They are only behind by 1 game. Don't get me wrong, they are still terrible at 5-8 but it won't take much to win this division. Blake Bortles 3 TD passes helped spark this win. They may regret going for it and scoring that late TD in a blowout.

Final Score: Jaguars 51-Colts 16

I picked the Colts because they usually don't lose division games.

The Seahawks win easily over the Ravens in Baltmore

The Seahawks are rolling at the right time. They are starting to look like the team, we all thought they were. Russell Wilson is playing great down the stretch. He tossed in 5 TD's against the Ravens. He's making big time throws in the pocket, which is important for his growth. They'll need him to keep delivering big games with both of their top RB's injured. Tyler Lockett is a weapon. He can kill you in the return game, but he's proving he's a solid WR as well. He had 6 catches for 104 yards and 2 TD's. The Ravens are beat up and just trying to make it to the end of this disappointing season.

Final Score: Seahawks 35-Ravens 6

I picked the Seahawks because they were the superior team.

The Raiders shock the Broncos with a stunning upset in Denver

The Raiders offense struggled against this great Broncos defense and it didn't matter. The Raiders had Khalil Mack, who was a one man wrecking crew on their defense. He sacked Brock Oseweiler 5 times, including 1 for a safety. It was an ugly game. The Broncos struggled to finish drives and never got in the end zone. Osweiler is still playing well and there is no need to rush Manning back into the line up. It's just the first loss with Brock at the helm. This was a tough loss to an up and coming team.

Final Score: Raiders 15-Broncos 12

I picked the Broncos because they were at home and the better team.

The Packers take care of the Cowboys at home.

The Cowboys without Tony Romo are truly pathetic. This coaching staff, mainly Jason Garrett should be held accountable for failing miserably at adjusting a game plan to suit the current personnel. This was an ugly game for both teams. The Packers don't look good down the stretch. They struggled to put away this Cowboy team. They managed to get Eddie Lacy going in this game. He had 124 yards rushing and a TD. The Packers may not go far in the playoffs. Their offense looks very limited right now. The Cowboys saw their season saved last week only to turn around and watch it go away again. This loss may have finally buried them even in an awful division like the NFC East.

Final Score: Packers 28-Cowboys 7

I picked the Packers because they were at home and rarely lose there.

The Patriots take care of business by beating the Texans in prime time

This was a defensive game. Both defenses played great. The Pats have Tom Brady and that was the key. They were able to complete drives and make crucial plays when they needed it. The Texans have to get a QB. They need to get a good one. This team could be a contender, but the inconsistent play at that position kills them. They need to stop with the back up carousel. It's embarrassing. With that said they are tied for 1st place in their awful division. They could run away with it if they had a legit QB. This win was huge for the Pats. They are now back in the driver's seat for home field advantage in the AFC.

Final Score: Patriots 27-Texans 6

I picked the Patriots because they had Tom Brady and who knew who would be playing QB for the Texans at this point.

The Giants get a much needed road win over the Dolphins.

The Giants had to win this game to keep pace in the NFC East. They went on the road and took care of business. Eli Manning delivered a huge game. He was 27-31 for 337 yards and 4 TD's. Amazing! His #1 weapon was all over the field making plays. Odell Beckham Jr. had 7 catches for 166 yards and 2 TD's. Now there is a 3 way tie for the terrible NFC East and the Giants staked their claim tonight. The Dolphins are just trying to get through this season. No telling what this team will look like next year. It has been a disaster and I don't see it getting better anytime soon.

Final Score: Giants 31-Dolphins 24

I picked the Dolphins because I thought they could steal a game from the Giants at home. I think the Giants are the better team but they have a habit of playing down to their opponents.

I think if Big Ben is close to 100% and the rest of their weapons (minus Bell) are there, they can put up enough points to go all the way. At least get to the SB where maybe Carolina or Seattle trips them up. (I'd prefer Arizona) But yeah, AFC is more injured and NFC is peaking. Overall.

Mick97 I feel like you and I have the same feel on the Steelers. Do you still think the Steelers can/will win?

I think if the Steelers make it...they are the most dangerous team. I even said i thought they would be a 6 seed wild card team and win super bowl. You have to believe they are the team no one wants to see. They were my pick so I ride or die with that. I agree with the NFC being stronger. Panthers, Cardinals and Seahawks all playing well at the right time. If Cam and Carson stay healthy sky is the limit for Panthers and Cardinals. I just think if the AFC lets the Steelers slip's over.

Do you go back to your pre-season choice (and mine) of the Steelers? Or do you now see it another way? I think the NFC looks like the stronger conference, and will probably be the favorite in the SB.
