NFL Week 3 Recap--My Predictions

Updated on October 5, 2015

Randal Bruce vs ESPN

I've bounced back nicely after a disastrous Week 2 record. I told you I'd slay the dragon. I finished 13-3 after Week 3. I'm feeling better, but that dragon is still hovering over me. Keyshawn Johnson at ESPN beat me again. He led the way at 15-1 for the week. Tom Jackson finished 14-2. So I was looking up at them this week. My overall record now is 28-20. I'm well over .500 and that's nice. Johnson and Jackson are the top dogs at ESPN after 3 weeks. They are both 33-15. I'm only 5 games behind. I'll get them. You can see my picks to the right. There is a link that will lead you to my division by division breakdown and picks and next link will lead you to ESPN's.

Giants beat the Redskins for the 5th time in a row

Same old Redskins. Birds got to fly. Fish got to swim and the Giants beat the Redskins. We can talk about the fact that since 2008 the Redskins are 4-18 in prime time games. Save the not ready for prime time jokes because they stink in the daytime as well. There isn't much to talk about in this game. Odell Beckham is the man. Giants win easily. Good night.

Final Score: Giants 32-Redskins21

I picked the Giants because they always beat the Redskins or at least it feels like it.

The Raiders go into Cleveland and take care of business

The Browns are awful. The Raiders look like they have things headed in the right direction. They have their QB and it looks like they have their #1 WR. Derek Carr delivered another stellar game. He passed for 314 yards and 2 TD's. Amari Cooper had 8 catches for 134 yards. They may have found their RB. Latavius Murray rushed for 139 yards and a TD. The defense made some things happen. They had 5 sacks and picked off one pass. I think the Browns sealed their fate when they went with McCown over Manziel. Manziel played well the week before. Stay with the hot hand.

Final Score: Raiders 27-Browns 20

I picked the Browns. I thought more of the Browns before the season. I apologize.

Falcons come from behind to beat the Cowboys

I felt like the Cowboys had enough talent to pull this one off. Early on it looked like they were going to run away with this game. I still think the Cowboys are better than people give them credit for. I may have underestimated the Falcons big time. I'm not a fan of their coaching staff, but I have to give them credit so far. They got done early and just kept fighting. The Falcons may have finally found the running game they have sorely needed for years. Devonta Freeman was amazing. He had 141 yards rushing and 3 TD's. He also had 5 catches for 52 yards. You can't leave out Julio Jones. Jones delivered another big game with 12 catches for 164 yards and 2 TD's.

Final Score: Falcons 39-Cowboys 28

When I made this pick Romo and Dez were healthy. I made my picks before the season and I'm riding them out. I picked the Cowboys and still felt good about this pick with Romo and Dez being out.

Colts continue to own the Titans

The Colts were on the verge of going 0-3 and Andrew Luck tossed 2 late TD's to save the day. The Colts are in trouble. They escaped the game against the Titans this time, but they are flirting with danger. Marcus Mariota is continuing to grow and it may be harder down the road to beat this team.

Final Score: Colts 35-Titans 33

I picked the Colts simply because they don't lose AFC South games or at least it feels like it.

Steelers beat the Rams in a game of field goals

This was an ugly game to watch. There was a half hour delay to start the game because the Rams fireworks caught the field on fire. Not their play, that was awful. Their pre game celebration got out of hand. It did not carry on to the field. The story of this game was the loss of Big Ben. He went down with a knee injury. The Steelers still managed to squeak out a defensive road win.

Final Score: Steelers 12-Rams 6

I picked the Steelers because I didn't think the Rams would have enough firepower to win.

Vikings controlled the Chargers from start to finish

I love when teams learn from their mistakes. Week 1 the Vikings barely gave Adrian Peterson the ball and they were destroyed. They have made it a point to get him the ball since then and he has repaid them with two 100 yard rushing performances. A.P. rushed for 126 yards and 2 TD's in this easy win over the Chargers. The Vikings defense did a job on the Chargers by holding them to 284 yards. This was a big win for the Vikings.

Final Score: Vikings 31-Chargers 14

I picked the Vikings on a hunch. I just thought they would win this game. Going into the season, I thought the Chargers were the better team but this is usually a game the Chargers would drop.

The Patriots run away from the Jaguars

This game was like a preseason game for the Patriots. These two teams are in different places. The Jags got a big win last week over Miami but they are no match for the Pats. Brady continues to dazzle. He passed for 358 yards and 2 TD's. Brady hits the 400 mark in TD passes in this game only to cement his greatness. This game was over when the Jags got off the bus.

Final Score: Patriots 51-Jaguars 17

I picked the Patriots because I didn't think the Jaguars had a chance. I was so right about that. I'm not going to pat myself on the back too much. I think everyone saw this coming.

Eagles almost blow big lead in win over the Jets

The Eagles get a much needed first win. Ryan Matthews got the start with DeMarco Murray being injured. He looks like the better back for this offense. I know it's only one game, but he came in and delivered with 108 yards rushing. Murray looks out of sync and a bad fit for the offense. We'll have to keep an eye on that.

Final Score: Eagles 24-Jets 17

I picked the Eagles because I thought this would be a rebuilding year for the Jets.

The Panthers hold off the win less Saints

Cam Newton and the Panthers were too much for the Saints. Cam threw for 2 TD's and ran for another. Newton passed for 310 yards and hooked up often with his #1 target Greg Olsen. Olsen had 8 catches for 134 yards and 2 TD's. The Saints were without their star QB Drew Brees. Back up QB Luke McCown stepped up and did his best to try to pull off the upset. McCown went 31-38 for 310 yards in the loss. It's going to be tough for the 0-3 Saints to make up ground in this division. The Panthers and Falcons are both 3-0.

Final score: Panthers 27-Saints 22

I picked the Panthers because they were at home and they fared well against the Saints last year. Didn't think much changed between the two teams.

Undefeated Bengals beat win less Ravens

The Bengals look like a force to be reckoned with early. They need to look like this in the playoffs. Andy Dalton came up big in this divisional game against the Ravens. He passed for 383 and 3 TD's. He also ran for a score. A.J. Green didn't want to be left out of the party. He had 10 catches for 227 yards and 2 TD's. Joe Flacco and Steve Smith provided some spark for the Ravens. Flacco passed for 362 yards and 2 TD's. Smith had 13 catches for 186 yards and 2 TD's. The Bengals won the shoot out leaving the Ravens win less.

Final Score: Bengals 28-Ravens 24

I picked the Bengals because I think they will win this division and are more talented.

Texans get their 1st win over the Buccaneers

Here are 2 teams with struggling QB play. This game was ugly, but the Texans managed to pull off a win. Alfred Blue had a big game rushing. He ran for 139 yards and a TD. DeAndre Hopkins pitched in with 8 catches for 101 yards and a score. The Texans needed this win bad.

Final Score: Texans 19-Buccaneers 9

I picked the Texans because I thought the Buccaneers had to much on their plate with a rookie QB.

The Cardinals destroy the 49ers

The Cardinals dominated on both sides of the ball. Carson Palmer had another big day with over 300 yards passing and 4 TD's. Chris Johnson showed signs of life with 110 yards rushing and 2 TD's. Larry Fitzgerald is loving having Palmer healthy. He had 9 catches for 134 yards and 2 TD's. The defense held the 49ers to only 156 yards. They picked off Kaepernick 4 times. Tyronn Mathieu led the way with 2 INT's. It was a total team beat down. 49ers fans are wishing Harbaugh was still the coach.

Final Score: Cardinals 47-49ers 7

I picked the Cardinals because the 49ers are a mess.

The Bills move past the Dolphins

I didn't believe in the Bills before the season because of their QB situation. They may have found themselves a diamond in the ruff in Tyrod Taylor. He is making things happen and the Bills look scary. Tyrod went 21-29 for 277 yards and 3 TD's. Rookie RB Karlos Williams is starting to turn heads as well. He rushed for 110 yards and a TD against the Dolphins. Right now he's the best back on the team. That may change when McCoy is healthy, but he's the guy delivering. The defense chipped in and picked off Tannehill 3 times.

Final Score: Bills 41-Dolphins 14

I picked the Dolphins purely based on the QB situation. I thought the Dolphins had the best situation, but right now I'm having my doubts.

Chancellor returns and the Seahawks D takes care of the Bears

The Bears hung in this game longer than anyone could imagine, but it was painful to watch their coach not try to win this game. Seattle is a superior opponent, but John Fox coached this game with the premise of don't get embarrassed. Pete Carroll coaches to win. Yes, Carroll has more talent, but his style doesn't change no matter who is playing. I understand that Fox was trying to keep the pressure off of Jimmy Clausen, but he was scared to give him a chance to step up. That's just my opinion. The Seahawks were clearly the better team. The defense got Kam Chancellor back and responded by holding the Bears to only 146 yards. Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio had a good game plan and gave the Bears a chance to win and kept them in the game. Too bad they didn't put in the work on the offensive side.

Final Score: Seahawks 26-Bears 0

I picked the Seahawks because from top to bottom they are clearly better than the Bears.

Manning's 2 TD's lead the Broncos past the Lions

The Broncos defense has been carrying this team early, which isn't a bad thing. It's taken a lot of pressure off of Peyton Manning. There isn't a need for him to go out and be great every game. Maybe he'll have something left in the playoffs. The defense takes care of business again holding to Lions to 290 yards of offense. They sacked Stafford 4 times and picked him off twice. Manning passed for 314 yards and 2 TD's. The Broncos are still a team to reckon with in the AFC. I thought the Lions would be a playoff team before the season. That's in serious doubt early with them at 0-3. They have had a tough schedule, but there is no time for excuses. They need to right the ship soon.

Final Score: Broncos 24-Lions 12

I picked the Broncos just based on them being a better team on paper. They proved it head to head.

Packers take care of the Chiefs at Lambeau

Just another day at the office for Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers passed for 333 yards and 5 TD's. James Jones was his top target this night. Jones had 7 catches for 139 yards and a score. Randal Cobb also had 7 catches. The defense came through with 7 sacks and 1 interception. Clay Matthews led the way on defense with 2 sacks. The Chiefs just couldn't keep up.

Final Score: Packers 38-Chiefs 28

I picked the Packers because I they have Aaron Rodgers. The teams are both talented but what sets them apart is the QB position.
