NFL Week 6 Recap

Updated on October 14, 2014

Indianapolis at Houston

The Colts jumped out to a quick, big lead, and were just able to hold on for the victory. What did I think would happen?

I think the Colts will be able to go down to Houston and get the victory. Their offense will get going again, and their defense will hold up. I do think that Arian Foster will rush for over 100 yards and have a score or two; however, the Texans will be down and forced to throw the ball, which will lead to turnovers.

The Colts lead the way in the AFC South after beating each division opponent so far this year.

Jacksonville at Tennessee

In a battle of the bottom of the AFC South, the injured Titans had just enough to squeak past the Jaguars. What did I think would happen?

The Jaguars travel to Tennessee to square off against the Titans in a battle of the bottom in the AFC South. The Titans will likely be without quarterback, Jake Locker, who left their game last week against Cleveland. The Titans are looking to bounce back after blowing a 25 point lead to the Browns, but could be hard to do without Locker. However, I don’t think Jacksonville is going to be able to take advantage of the banged up Titans, and think they lose a close one.

Tennessee 21-17

Baltimore at Tampa Bay

I must admit I thought this game would be much more competitive. The Ravens jumped out to a quick 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Joe Flacco had 5 Touchdown passes, all in the first half as the Ravens pounded the Bucs. What did I think would happen?

The question in this game is, “Can the Bucs bounce back after blowing an eleven point fourth quarter lead?” I don’t think so. I believe the Ravens, after a disappointing game last week against the Colts, will go into Tampa and get the win. Joe Flacco will bounce back after a bad week 5, and lead his team to victory.

Baltimore 23-14

Denver at NY Jets

Denver didn’t look great, but you have to give the credit to the Jets’ defense. However, the Jets’ offense has more problems than Jay-Z. Broncos struggled, but still pulled out the win. What did I think would happen?

This is the biggest lopsided game of the week. Geno Smith is struggling, and not showing up to team meetings. I think he gets a first row seat to watch what a consummate professional in Peyton Manning. Manning is at 503 career touchdown passes and just five behind Brett Favre’s record. I don’t think he’ll tie or break the record this week, but I think he tosses four touchdowns and sets himself up nicely to break the record on Primetime TV next week.

Detroit at Minnesota

This was a classic defensive game in the “Black and Blue” division with a total of twelve sacks, eight on Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater seemed to have taken a step back from the last time he played, but that is to be expected as he is just a rookie. The Lions pulled out the win. What did I think would happen?

Golden Tate doesn’t like the fact that Jim Schwartz was carried off the field after beating his former team after being fired this past off season? Then win, simply win and it won’t happen. The Vikings are not a good team without Adrian Peterson, which makes this a must win for Detroit. However, Teddy Bridgewater give the Vikings a spark and I think they are able to defend their home turf.

New England at Buffalo

Tom Brady has had back to back great weeks and I think the doubters have shut up. He still has it, and I think the Patriots will be just fine. Patriots were able to go into Buffalo and get the win pretty easily. What did I think would happen?

Despite New England’s troubles this year, they are still 3-2 and the team to beat in the AFC East. EJ Manuel couldn’t do it and was benched for backup, Kyle Orton. Orton had success against the Lions, but the Patriots have a better defense than the Lions and have played pretty well all year so far. I think Brady continues to show that he is one of the best in the league and will help get the win in Buffalo.

New England 24-17

Carolina at Cincinnati

“It’s like kissing your sister”… Yes the Panthers and the Bengals tied. The Bengals had an opportunity to win it with no time left in the overtime period; but kicker, Mike Nugent, pushed the ball the right and missed. What did I think would happen?

After four games, I still don’t know what to think about Cincinnati. They have beaten the Ravens, Falcons, and Titans but were blown out by the Patriots…after an extra week to prepare. The Bengals don’t stand out in any one aspect of the game, but they are solid all around. The Panthers are coming off a bounce back win against the Bears after getting pummeled by Steve Smith Sr and the Ravens. The thing about the Bengals is they are very tough at home, and I think it’s too much for the Panthers.

Don't be surprised if Cleveland makes a run for the Division this year.

Pittsburgh at Cleveland

The Browns hosted the Steelers and showed them that they aren’t here to be pushed around anymore. They won in commanding fashion 31-10. What did I think would happen?

After storming back against the Titans, the Browns are in a dangerous position this week. They need to try to ride this momentum to beat the Stealers at home. The Stealers are coming off two bad weeks, even though they won last week, it was against the Jaguars and they only put up 17 points; and they also lost the week before to the Bucs. I think Cleveland asserts themselves this year behind Hoyer.

Cleveland 27-17

Green Bay at Miami

Rogers and the Packers had their fans worried in this one. However, Rogers took some of his own advice at the end of the game on Sunday; he relaxed and threw the game winning touchdown with three seconds left. What did I think would happen?

The Packers travel to Miami to take on their old Offensive Coordinator, Joe Philbin, who is now the Head coach for the Dolphins. The Packers are coming off a big, blowout win against the Vikings in the rainstorm in Green Bay. I would normally like that the Dolphins had a bye week before facing an dominating team like the Packers, but the packers played on Thursday, so they had plenty of time to game plan for the Dolphins as well. With a Lion loss, and Packer win, Packer fans can take Aaron Rogers advice and R-E-L-A-X.

San Diego is making a surprisingly strong push at the beginning of this season

San Diego at Oakland

The Raiders had them; they were in a great position to win, mostly in part to rookie Derek Carr. He threw a career high 4 touchdown passes and only 1 interception to go along with it. However, as good as Carr was, he did turn the ball over twice in the last two minutes. The Chargers pulled out a close one on the road. What did I think would happen?

The Chargers are really good, the Raiders are really bad. Phillip Rivers is having a really good year, but not only that, the Chargers team as a whole playing well. They rank seventh in passing yards, second in opponent passing yards, and ninth in opponent rushing yards. It is going to be too much for rookie quarterback Derek Carr to handle.

No one appears to want to win the division, everyone seems to be playing poorly

Chicago at Atlanta

The Bears went down to Atlanta and handled their business. Jay Cutler had a great game despite only throwing one touchdown, but he managed the game brilliantly and threw for almost 400 yards. What did I think would happen?

Both teams are in MUST win situations. Granted I think the Bears are in a spot where they need a win more, because the NFC North is just better. The Falcons are tied for second in the NFC South with the Saints, but none of these South teams appear to be very good. The fact that Chicago has to travel down to Atlanta for the game, I think Atlanta will get the win. I would like to see Devin Hester have another big game against his old team, like he did a few weeks ago against the Bucs. Jay Cutler will throw his team into a deep enough whole he can’t throw out of.

Atlanta 31-17

Source

Dallas at Seattle

The score of this game did not accurately depict the way that Dallas thoroughly dominated this game. The Cowboys went up to Seattle and silenced the 12th man. Dallas is the real deal. What did I think would happen?

I believe we’ll learn a lot about the Cowboys this week as they travel to Seattle to take on the Legion of Boom and the Seahawks. If Tony Romo can manage the game and not turn the ball over, I think they have a shot to win this game. Russell Wilson is playing out of his mind right now, and I think he is able to keep drives alive and the Cowboys’ offense off the field just long enough to close out a close game.

Seattle: 23-20

Washington at Arizona

Deep down, RGIII has to be extremely happy. Any doubt that he should be the starter in Washington has clearly been removed. Cousins is a turnover machine, and it appears he just can’t do it. Maybe it’s the system he is in, maybe it’s just inexperience, but right now it is evident that he can’t do it. The Cardinals escape with a win due to four fourth quarter turnovers by Cousins. What did I think would happen?

Kurt Cousins is travelling across the country to face a fierce defense in Arizona. The Redskins aren’t very good, and the Cardinals, coming off a loss, are completely focused and looking to get back on track. The Cardinals do rank 31st in the league in overall pass defense, but they have played Phillip Rivers, the Manning brothers, and Colin Kaepernick. Despite going up against those 4 great quarterbacks, they have only given up a total of eight passing touchdowns. Cousins isn’t on the same level as those guys and I expect will have a rough week.

A division that many thought would be the worst in the NFL, appears to be one of the very best.

NY Giants at Philadelphia

his game looked like a Varsity vs Junior Varsity game in the trenches. The Eagles pushed the Giants around, and to make matters worse, the Giants lose Victor Cruz to a knee injury. There won’t be any more salsa dancing this year. Eagles won easily. What did I think would happen?

Eli Manning finally looks comfortable in the West Coast offense, and is thriving. After throwing three touchdowns and four interceptions in the first two games, Manning has thrown eight touchdowns and one interception in the last three games. His yardage is down this year, but he is throwing more touchdowns and less interceptions and points count, not yards. The Eagles really have one good win so far this year, and probably should have lost it if it weren’t for some bad play calling by Pep Hamilton and the Colts. Their other three wins are against teams that are a combined 2-12. I don’t think they are as good as they appear. With the game tied in the fourth quarter, Manning will drive his team down the field for the game winning score.

No one would have thought the Seahawks would be third in their division six weeks into the season

San Francisco at St. Louis

The Rams took an early 14-0 lead, but Colin Kaepernick was simply phenomenal. He threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns, while running three times for 37 yards, to bring the 49ers back to win 31-17. What did I think would happen?

I don’t think the Rams are as bad as everyone thinks, they have played in close games, except for their first game against Minnesota. They are the best team against the pass, partly because of who they have played, but they have played both Dallas and Philly who each throw the ball quite a bit. The 49ers are solid. They rank third in rushing, fourth in opponent passing, and fifth in opponent rushing. That is really impressive considering they have played teams that are a combine 15-9 and are all solid teams. It comes down to who I think is going to give their team more offense, Kaepernick or Austin Davis. I think the answer is Kaepernick. The 49ers win this defensive battle.

San Francisco 14-10

How did I do?

When picking the right side of the game I went 10-4-1. Some of the games I was able to get kind of close on the score, however that was the exception, not the rule.

BEST WIN

The best win this week has to be Dallas going up to Seattle and dominating the game. They played great and deserve to be in the talk as one of the best teams in the league right now.

Worst Loss

The worst loss is probably Atlanta losing to Chicago at home. The “Dirty Birds” needed to win to keep pace with the rest of the division. They have now lost three in a row and two games out of the lead in the NFC South.
