Why I Chose The Kamleika Race Smock II
Having been looking around for a lightweight waterproof jacket for running and cycling I knew it was time I spent money on a higher level product. Having used a relatively cheap cycling waterproof for a number of years that has simply kept the water out I felt now a good quality waterproof jacket I could use for more than just running was needed. Being in a fetching red and blue colorscheme also helped me as I like a bit of color when I'm running and cycling with a lot of kit already in these colors.
Having plans on doing some Mountain Marathon type events as well as a number of long distance mountain bike and adventure races requiring more specific pieces on their kit lists.
The OMM Kamleika Smock ticks a lot of the boxes I require and fits well. At 6ft tall, with a long upper body and arms I needed a jacket long enough in the arms, narrow enough in the body and with enough room across my upper back. Having tried similar priced products from many other running related manufacturers I found I was struggling with room across my back and arms. I'm not a skinny runner by physique, more of a general athletic build and jackets from brands like Inov8 and Soloman simply felt baggy around the waist with no room on the upper back or chest.

Performance When Running and Cycling
The primary reason I bought the smock was for running. With an ultra-marathon and the legendary Man V Mountain event over Mount Snowdon in September my kit list specified I must have a waterproof jacket with taped seems.
In honesty I find that on runs the jacket feels more like a mid-layer than a waterproof. It's light to touch and makes little noise whilst moving when compared to many other jackets I've tried. It may not be the lightest available at the price I paid (Less than £100 thanks to RatRace) but it fits me well which is often the biggest battle for me and I'm not fussed over carrying an additional 50 grams in my back pocket at present.
I've even kept it in my back pocket for a lot of road cycling and it's been needed on a number of occasions over the winter. The jacket is long enough in the back for cycling although as it's not a cycling specific cut there is a little excess fabric towards the front of the smock even on my small size although in honesty I really need an extra small around the waist (I'm currently down to a 26 inch waist and still healthy with it)

The Only Snag for Me- Arm Length
One of the things I really struggle with is arm length. Having tried on OMM's eVent Cypher jacket on a previous trip in an extra small and finding it was just a little too narrow in the body but long enough in the arms I believed the Kamleika smock would have suitable arm length and sadly the Kamleika gets marked down in this review for that aspect.
My 'go-go-gadget' arms are often a stumbling block for any piece of long sleeve clothing and I find that when using the thumb loops of the Kamleika it's borderline ok and by no means short compared to many other brands. I'm now more inclined to wear the jacket without the use of the thumb-loops although it is still an awesome jacket.
The Kamleika Smock is a great piece of kit. Lightweight and stretchy whilst not breaking the bank
