Opinion: Can Gareth Bale Rejuvenate the Right Wing of Manchester United?

Updated on May 9, 2019

After what feels like a decade of speculation, the deal between Manchester United and Gareth Bale is looking like a reality. Zinedine Zidane is back at the helm in the Spanish capital and has different ideas. The legendary French star wants to refresh the club by signing the new players.

Gareth Bale is not the main man at Santiago Bernabeu and hasn’t performed to his potential. With injury affecting his fitness, one can't fault Zidane for wanting to ship the player out of the club. Also, the re-appointment of Zidane might be the last nail in the coffin for Bale as far as his Real Madrid career is concerned.

Manchester United burned their hand with Alexis Sanchez-Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap deal in 2017-18. Former Arsenal forward has failed to live up the expectations at Old Trafford. He has scored only four goals for Manchester United in one and a half year. Because of this, Manchester United might not want to make the same mistake with Gareth Bale who is reaching the autumn of the career.

However, Manchester United have not posed a significant threat from the wings after the retirement of Ryan Giggs. Since the Fergie era, Manchester United have relied heavily on the fast-paced counter-attack from the wings. The current full backs have failed to fill the void for the Red Devils. Adding to the woes, Manchester United has miserably failed to score from free kicks and outside the box. Even though Rashford, Mata and Fred have found the purple patch, they have not performed consistently for the Old Trafford based outfit.

Paul Pogba is rumored to leave English Premier League to join Real Madrid. In modern day football, the team requires a superstar who can have a positive impact both on and off the pitch. Signing Gareth Bale on a loan/permanent deal can increase the shirt sales at Old Trafford and bring the investors.

Gareth Bale can solve all the issues at Old Trafford. He can create chances from outside the box for the likes of Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku. The whipping crosses from the right wing can be mouth watering for Romelu Lukaku. Apart from these advantages, Bale possesses his goal threat for the opposition. This will make the loan deal an attractive option for Manchester United.

Conclusion:

Manchester United are facing difficulty to finish in top-four which might adversely affect their Champions League qualification. Without the Champions League, it is difficult to sign a World class wingers like Jadon Sancho, Ivan Perisic. This compels Manchester United to sign the Welshman.

Also, Welshman suits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s style of play. The team requires someone who can use the service provided by the midfielders and turn it into a counter-attack.
