Ping Pong DVDs Will Skyrocket Your Playing

Updated on February 3, 2010

People all have their preferred sports. For some, it is football. For others, it is basketball. For me, the sport is ping pong. Many other sports have DVDs on how to improve your game, so naturally, I wanted to find out if I could find any ping pong DVDs on how to become a better ping pong playa.

I got my first ping pong table when I was eleven years old. I used to play my brother nearly every day, and I would always try to beat him. This didn't always go well. Starting out, I would nearly always lose to my brother. You can imagine how embarrassing that was for me. I would practice nearly every day, but I couldn't seem to get any better. If I had a ping pong DVD back then, my playing would have gone through the roof, and I would have beaten my brother without any problem. Alas, I did not have a ping pong DVD. Without a ping pong DVD, my brother continued to tear me apart at the ping pong table.

As time wore on, I did improve somewhat, but my brother still beat me much more often than I beat him. The reason for that is twofold. The first reason is that as I practiced against him, he was also practicing against me! The second reason is that I never really had a teacher to show me how to play ping pong better. I needed a ping pong mentor. Of course, I now know that a mentor can often be found in the form of a ping pong DVD, but I did not realize that at the time (plus DVDs were very rare and expensive at the time).

To make a long story short, my family moved when I was fourteen, and one of the casualties of moving was our cheap ping pong table. As happens sometimes, our cheap ping pong table either got lost or broken during the move. I wish I could remember which, but I can't. So my brother and I were out one ping pong table, and my parents never bothered buying another one.

Although they did not get us another ping pong table, they did get us something else: a pool table. My brother and I quickly directed our sibling rivalry towards conquering each other at the pool table. Fortunately for me, I am a much better pool player than I am a ping pong player. So of course, I didn't have any problems with beating my brother at pool.

Well, something has come up recently that went me back to square one as far as sibling rivalry goes. Care to guess what it is? I'll tell you. I came home one particular evening, and I saw something set up in my basement. A childhood fear rose up within me, I was taken back to a place that I had not been in years. There was a ping pong table in my basement. And standing right there, holding a ping pong paddle in his hand, was my brother, challenging me to a rematch.

Just like old times, I lost, and I lost bad. For the sake of saving myself some bit of embarrassment I will not say by how much I lost.

I went online and I found some ping pong DVDs. I knew that I had to end my losing streak that was nearly a decade long. So I studied all of the techniques in the DVDs, and I practiced day and night. I went back to my brother a month later and I dared him to rematch me. You see, he had NO idea that I had bought ping pong DVDs online, and I had tried to hide my practicing from him.

That rematch, I completely destroyed him. I have got to say, buying ping pong DVDs really really worked wonders for me. Just don't tell my brother.
