The English Premier League or Premiership.Call it what you will. Well it has been going for 20 years now and is about to start its 21st season in this incarnation since taking over as the top league in England from the First Division.

Here are just a few facts and figures and biggest names to have featured and starred in the league over those years.

The league has been extremely good for Manchester United,having won 12 out of 20 titles. The change to the Premiership changed the course of Manchester United. They won the first championship in 1992/93 and hadn’t won the old First Division since 1967.

The opposite is true of Liverpool. They had won 10 of the last 17 First Division titles but none since the start of the Premier League.

ALEX FERGUSON is the only manager to be in charge for every season in the Premier.

ANDY COLE Cole was the first player to score 5 in a premiershipgame in a 9-0 win for Manchester United against IpswichTown on 4 March 1995

ALAN SHEARER Shearer scored 5 in Newcastle Uniteds 8-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on 19 September 1999.

JERMAIN DEFOE Scored his 5 for Tottenham Hotspur in a 9-1 victory over Wigan Athletic on 22 November 2009.

DIMITAR BERBATOV Scored 5 for Manchester United against Blackburn Rovers in a 7-1 victory on 27 November 2010.

FIRST HAT-TRICK

First hat-trick was by ERIC CANTONA while he was a Leeds United player in a 5-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur on 25 August 1992.

QUICKEST HAT-TRICK

The quickest hat-trick was scored by Liverpools ROBBIE FOWLER against Arsenal in 4 and a half minutes in 1994.

FIRST EVER GOAL

First ever premiership goal was scored by Sheffield Uniteds one time England forward BRIAN DEANE on 15 August 1992 when he scored after 5 minutes in a 2-1 win against Manchester United.

The top scorers in any season of the premier league has been 34 and it happened in consecutive seasons.

      OK Great stats and some surprise facts but the killer stat for me is Robby's superb hat trick against the Gunners in 4.5 minutes. Will this ever be bettered - especially against top class opposition.
