The Baddest Man on The Planet

Mike Tyson had phenomenal power, speed and defensive prowess during his prime. He had many boxers beat before the opening bell with his fearsome demeanor. His best assets in the squared circle were his power, chin, speed and his defense.

Mike Tyson's press conferences and pre-fight interviews and stare downs were things of legend. Tyson was famous for his brutal knockouts while defending his crown nine times but, also infamous for many in and out of the ring antics as well. He is known to act up at almost every weigh in. Everyone waits for Tyson to start something.

He has been known to throw a head butt or an elbow when he got frustrated but, it all came to a screeching halt, when he first tried to break boxer Evander Holyfield's arm then he bite him twice on the ears to get disqualified in the fight.

Tyson has since retired, apologized for his past transgressions.

Also, he lost his daughter in a freak accident. Now he has became a household celebrity and has the love and adoration of the public now, that he didn't necessarily have as a prizefighter.

Mike Tyson could hang with any fighter in history in his prime especially for the first six rounds of a bout. One thing is for sure, when it comes to Mike Tyson is his fights were exciting. Also, his bouts weren't just fights, they were events. People who did not follow boxing still kept up with the great Mike Tyson.

Iron Mike

Iron Mike Tyson was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1966 and at the age of twenty he became the youngest Heavyweight Champion in history by knocking out Trevor Berbick in two rounds. From the time Tyson won the title in 1986 until he lost it to Buster Douglas in 1990, Tyson terrorized the heavyweight division and unified the belts.

Among those he beat were: Michael Spinks (undefeated), Larry Holmes (twice beat controversially), Tony Tubbs, Tyrell Biggs, Pinklon Thomas and Tony Tucker. In his second Championship reign, he beat Frank Bruno (for the second time), Frans Botha and Andrew Golota, but, he was hammered by Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis. He struck fear in many a foe during his prime. Although everyone thinks of his knockout power, it has to be noted that his defense was outstanding early in his career as he used the Cus D Amato peek a boo style.

He was the epitome of the saying," Make you miss then make you pay". Tyson had many opponents intimidated before the opening bell. He came to the ring with a ripped towel around his neck that he usually tossed off as he entered the ring. He also wore no socks, paced the ring and would just keep staring his opponent down. When it was time for the refs final instructions, Iron Mike would stare you down as he gritted his teeth. Iron Mike was a brawler with fast and powerful hands and great head movement. He was usually the shorter boxer with the shorter reach in the majority of his bouts. His bob and weave style allowed him to get past his opponents longer jab where he was ready to pounce with murderous blows to the head and body.
