Ready Your Stable for the Road to the Roses
It is that time of year when the excitement starts in the Road to the Roses fantasy game. The launch is expected to be this Monday, February 14th, 2011. It gives you the entire weekend to do the research necessary to put together a super competitive stable for this year’s game. February, March, and April are filled with exciting Kentucky Derby 137 prep races from coast to coast. Let’s take a look at some of the trainers, jockeys, three year old horses, and resources you might like to know about.
The best trainers in the country should be able to get at least one of their charges to the Churchill Downs starting gate. These include last year’s KD 136 winning trainer, Todd Pletcher. Two time Derby winning trainer Bob Baffert can be expected to have a group of derby aspirants. Trainer Nicolas Zito has won the derby twice and could have a derby horse. Three time KD winning trainer D. Wayne Lukas cannot be counted out. Others with a strong crop of potential derby runners include Steve Asmussen, Kiaran McLaughlin, Bill Mott, and the Dutrow’s (Richard and Tony). What about the women trainers? Carla Gaines, Helen Pitts, Shannon Ritter, Christine Janks, Ingrid Mason, and Josie Carroll could all have a derby contender this year. The derby trail is long and arduous. There is no telling which trainer might have a breakout year.
Top jocks this year will be Garrett Gomez, John Velazquez, Alan Garcia, Rafael Bejarano and of course the prince of Churchill Downs, Calvin Borel. Another group of jockey’s that could get a number of great mounts along the derby trail will be Ramon Dominguez, Julian Leparoux, Kent Desormeaux, James Graham, and Corey Nakatani. Could a female jockey win the KD 137 this year? There are a number of very talented lady riders including Rosemary Homeister, Chantal Sutherland, Inez Karlsson, and Anna “Rosie” Napravnik. Any one of these ladies has the skills to ride their way into the winners circle.
Many stables will have in their ranks some of the top potential winners of KD 137 such as Uncle Mo, Comma to the Top, To Honor And Serve, and Tapizar. All have the talent necessary to make it to the starting gate. There are quite a few others that you should consider when piecing together your fantasy stable. Astrology, Stay Thirsty, Sway Away, Soldat, Determinato, Rogue Romance, Brethren, Awesome Patriot, Jaycito, Dialed In, and Silver Medallion all have the potential to make a race of it on the derby trail. The Triple Crown nominees will be release tomorrow, 2-11-2011 where there will be a substantial number of quality horses to choose from.
