Real Madrid New Signings Rated
Who are the players?
Real Madrid is a club not shy of signing great players. And great players are not shy of stating their intent to play with Real Madrid. Thus, Real Madrid are usually the pace setter when it comes to transfer spending in the summer.
This summer is no different. Real Madrid have already spent approximately €340M on five players - Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo Goes.
Of course they are other players coming in such as the exciting Takefusa Kubo. He is a young attacking midfield player signed from FC Tokyo. However, this article will only focus on those 5 major signings as a start.
Why do Real Madrid need the signings?
Let's be honest. It is so disappointing to watch Real Madrid during the 2018/19 campaign. It seemingly that everything that can go wrong went wrong for Blancos - with the only exceptions of few young talents stating their intent to honour the Real Madrid's badge.
Los Blancos finished third in La Liga. To make things worst, we were knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax in the Round of 16 as we struggled under former managers Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.
Thus, Zinedine Zidane is committed to engage in a squad overhaul at the Bernabeu as Real Madrid look to put the disappointing campaign behind us. He is back in charge for a second term and determined to provide prompt remedial action to the club.
Player Rating: Eden Hazard: €100M - 28 Years Old
In a world where the top echelons of Football is dominated by two out-of-this-world individuals, Eden Hazard lingers just outside their reach. It is undeniable that Hazard is one kind of a player and almost any clubs will be better with him around.
Strong dribbling, expert passing and accurate through balls are just a few of his forte. He unlocks defense easily and enable his teammates to play well by making spaces all around the pitch.
At the age of 28 years old, he is at his prime and can contribute immediately towards Real Madrid progression next season. I am convinced that he will become a starter at Real from the get go.
Lets look at some of his stats:
- Since the start of the 2012/13 campaign, Hazard has been directly involved in 191 goals in 352 appearances; 94 more than any other Chelsea player in this period
- Hazard scored more goals for Chelsea in 2018/19 than he had in any of his seven seasons at Stamford Bridge (21 goals)
- Hazard supplied 595 goal scoring chances for his teammates at Chelsea between August 2012 and May 2019; 208 more than any other Chelsea player
- Hazard attempted and completed more dribbles than any other player since the start of the 2012/13 campaign in the Premier League
- Due to his aggressive style of dribbling, the Belgian draws more fouls than any other players in Chelsea
All and all very impressive stats for this time in the Premiere League. He is a proven player and will be valuable to the Blancos straight away.
My Rating Prediction for Eden Hazard's first season: 4.5 / 5
Player Rating: Luka Jović: €60M - 21 Years Old
Finally, Real Madrid is getting exactly the player they are looking for - a deadly finisher! With a plethora of forwards Real Madrid possesses, only a few of them are No.9. Icing on the cake? Jovic is also the type of striker that Real want to eventually replace Karim Benzema.
Why this deal is so good? In my honest opinion, Jovic's €60M price tag is a steal considering the hyper-inflated market price nowadays. And he is also a very young player which means he has more patience to start from the bench and willing to sit and learn from the starting forward - Benzema.
Benzema's superb season 2018/2019 with a haul of 30 goals and 11 assists is a higher production rate than most of Europe's top strikers - Jovic included. This is important because Jovic will understand that he will need to bide his time playing lesser minutes in his first season with Real Madrid.
It is not impossible for Zidane to employ a 4-4-2 formation which may indicate that Jovic & Benzema play together but with the number of wide men in the ranks, it may prove too difficult to do so. We will discuss about that in another article.
Lets look at some of his stats:
- Jovic managed 27 goals between the Bundesliga and European competition in 2017/18, and also provided seven assists for his colleagues
- Approximately half of his 125 shots from inside the area were on target too
- He has scored with left foot, right foot, and header in 2017/2018
Jovic will be an important player for Zidane in the upcoming season as he will increase the competition level within the Blancos strikers department. He will also enable Zidane to rotate his strikers easily allowing Benzema to rest in between games.
My Rating Prediction for Luka Jović's first season: 3.8 / 5
Player Rating: Eder Militão: €50M - 21 Years Old
Having new center back is a breath of fresh air for Real Madrid fans. Because we know that something needs to be done for our backline. On paper, it seems that it is already strong enough to challenge any top clubs. However, we also need to look at continuity and improvements.
Hence, Eder Militão. A solid center back transitioned from his native right back position, is great in aerial duels, tackling, interception, and of course dribbling. Some people might suggest that dribbling skill is a waste for a center back. That might be true to some clubs but not all clubs are like Real Madrid. We are an attack-minded team. Even our Captain Ramos scores many goals and bombed forwards.
In my opinion, Eder was brought in the ranks to succeed Ramos as a center back pair to Varane. This makes perfect sense because Ramos - though currently one of the best defenders in the planet, is at the declining age.
He might not have much minutes from the start due to the undisputed pair of Ramos-Varane. But when he is given the chance, I hope that he performs.
My Rating for Eder Militão's first season: 3.5 / 5
Player Rating: Ferland Mendy: €48M - 24 Years Old
This is a signing that I don't really understand. Unless you're telling me that Marcelo will definitely leave this summer. If he is just brought in to be Marcelo's backup, then I think we just need to stick with Sergio Reguilon. The lad has done very well last season to earn a chance to prove himself at the Bernabeu.
With that being said, Ferland Mendy is a quality player don't get me wrong. He is touted to be the most balanced players in regards to attacking and defending as a left back. He is strong in aerial duels as well. I can see his appeal.
Mendy’s rise has been astronomical. At the age of 21, he had made just 12 league appearances at second tier club. At 23, he finds himself a full international for France and played a starring role in Lyon's Champions League eventual defeat to Barcelona at the round of 16.
Being a balanced player offensively and defensively is very rare. I hope that he plays many games in his first season.
My Rating Prediction for Ferland Mendy's first season: 4 / 5
Player Rating: Rodrygo Goes: €45M - 18 Years Old
Another prodigy hailed from Brazil has been snapped by Real Madrid at a tender age of 18 years old. Losing Neymar to Barcelona last time seemingly made Real Madrid determined not to lose young talents like that ever again.
The forward were acquired last summer from Brazilian Santos. He has thrived under Jorge Sampaoli and is already considered as the future of Brazil alongside our very own Vinicius Jr.
Rodrygo is swift fast player, an exceptional dribbler who is direct on his approach and is not afraid to take on fast defenders. He is seemingly similar to Vinicius Jr but fans in Brazil claimed that he is a better finisher and more flexible. That is to be seen when he started playing with Los Blancos in La Liga.
My personal opinion is that both him and Vinicius have great and similar potential. None is above the other. It is totally up to them on how they improved and progressed further as a player in Real Madrid. One thing for certain is that they are both the future stars of football.
My Rating Prediction for Rodrygo Goes's first season: 3.5 / 5
Please note that the ratings given is based on my personal opinion on how I thought they will perform in their first season with Los Blancos. It is not a rating of how good they are a player.
Once the season ends, I will be visiting those ratings again to see how much I am wrong because I'm sure I'll be wrong with many of these ratings.
Which player you think will performs best next season?
