Rooster Tail Fishing Lure

The Rooster tail is a classic fishing lure around since the 1950's. Developed and sold by Worden's Lure Co it is probably the most used and productive lure for catching all kinds of different fish.

The rooster tail has the classic hackle tied around a treble hook with matching leaf blade and body.

If you walk into just about any tackle store you will find a huge selection of rooster tails, usually these are for trout or steelhead fishing.

How To Use

Fishing wish a rooster tail lure is pretty straight forward: simply cast it out and retrieve it fast enough to make the blade of the lure spin. If you reel it in too slowly the blade won't spin and it is not effective.

Just let the lure do it's thing and the fish will be attracted to it and bite.

Another popular way of fishing rooster tails is to troll it behind your boat with enough additional weight added onto the line to get the lure down to the proper depth.
