2017 Royal Rumble Predictions

Updated on January 29, 2017

With four championship matches, plus the 30 Superstar battle royale, fans will be watching to see how the storylines for Wrestlemania will unfold.

Who will walk in Wrestlemania as champion?

Who will have a shot at main-eventing on the grandest stage of them all?

Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns

For the WWE Universal championship, we have Kevin Owen defending the title against contender, Roman Reigns.

To make matters more interesting, Kevin Owens friend, Chris Jericho will be suspended in a shark cage above the ring.

Jericho has proven to be a huge help to Owens throughout the champ's title reign. But can Owens defeat the big dog, Roman Reigns on his own.

Reigns meanwhile is still fuming over his loss of the United States championship to Jericho. What better way to redeem himself than by taking the Universal championship from Owens.

Prediction: Owens will retain due to some crazy shenanigans.

John Cena vs AJ Styles

The Cena/Styles feud has once again been reignited.

The two put on a hell of a battle last summer and heading into the Royal Rumble the intensity has kicked up.

After returning from a break, John Cena is looking to make history by winning his 16th championship and tying Ric Flair.

Styles meanwhile has had an amazing run as champion, leaving many fans cheering him despite his status as a heel.

There's no arguing that Styles lives up to his name as the phenomenal one and he's done a good job of running Smackdown in Cena's absence.

Both men are deserving champs, yet only one's going to walk out the winner.

Prediction: This is a match that could go either way, but WWE wants Cena to win #16 so look for him as the victor.

Charlotte vs Bayley

WWE Raw's woman champion, Charlotte looks to add to her PPV winning streak by beating fan favorite Bayley.

It's a refreshing turn of events from the usual Charlotte and Sasha Banks battles we've seen the last few months.

Charlotte has done a wonderful job as her role of heel. As for Bayley, her cheery attitude has been a hit with the crowd.

Charlotte and Bayley are part of the popular 4 Horsewomen from NXT. They’ve proven they can put on awesome matches and are worthy of the championship.

Prediction: Charlotte's PPV winning streak will continue. This feud is just getting started and Bayley will eventually get her moment at Wrestlemania.

Sheamus & Cesaro vs Anderson & Gallows

Raw's tag team of Sheamus and Cesaro defend their titles against Anderson & Gallows.

Sheamus and Cesaro weren’t doing much in singles competition, so it was refreshing to see the WWE have them team up. They’ve been quite the entertaining duo and the crowd seems to love them.

Anderson and Gallows have had plenty of ups and downs during their main roster tenure. One of their biggest disappointments was their horrendous feud with The New Day. After failing to capture the tag titles during that feud, they’ve been given a second chance thanks to Sheamus and Cesaro.

Prediction: Again this is a match that could go either way. But look for Anderson and Gallows to win. They’re long overdue for the tag team championship.

Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, & Naomi vs. Mickie James, Natalya, & Alexa Bliss

In this match we have all six of Smackdown’s women wrestlers facing off in a tag match.

On one side, you have the babyface team of Becky, Nikki, and Naomi pitted against the heel faction of Mickie, Natalya, and Alexa.

These ladies have been stepping up in their individual feuds and helping fans get invested in their storylines.

This match was added last minute, but the outcome is sure to help further their feuds.

Prediction: The heels have been running Smackdown the last few weeks, but look for the babyfaces of Becky, Nikki, and Naomi to score a victory.

Nia Jax vs Sasha Banks

Much like Charlotte and Bayley, the Jax and Banks feud is just starting.

It's great to see them incorporating Jax into storylines instead of putting her in squash matches against jobbers. This feud with Sasha can help further develop Jax’s character and get her over with the crowd.

As for Sasha, it’s good to see her in a feud that doesn’t involve Charlotte. Sasha has sometimes been portrayed as the underdog and going into a feud with Nia Jax, she’s definitely got a tough battle ahead of her.

Will Sasha be able to pull off an underdog win once again?

Prediction: Nia Jax will win this match. A victory will cement her status as heel and add more drama to her rivalry with Sasha.

Royal Rumble

Out of all the matches, this is the one the WWE Universe is anxious for the most.

We have big name SuperStars such as Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, and The Undertaker competing in the battle royale.

Plus, let’s not forget the current roster of SuperStars including: Chris Jericho, The New Day, Randy, Orton, The Wyatt Family, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, and Dean Ambrose.

Then there’s still eight spots left, which is sure to be filled with lots of surprises.

If the rumors are true, we could see Finn Balor return along with the debut of Samoa Joe and Tye Dillinger.

With so many SuperStars and potential shockers, this will be an unpredictable battle royale.

Prediction: The Undertaker has been the odds-on favorite, so I’m going to stick with him winning the Royal Rumble.
