For the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 2012 was a memorable year — that, ironically, they're trying to forget, writes FOX Sports Greg Couch. For Irish, 2012 was a memorable year ... that they're trying to forget

After decades of being an Independent, the Fighting Irish finally join a conference…The ACC!
It’s a very calculated decision on Notre Dame’s part, if you consider the new upcoming 2014 playoff format and what happened at South Bend last season.
- Manti Teo’s girlfriend hoax
- Brian Kelly trying to leave for the NFL
- Loosing 42-14 on the BCS Championship Game
The Fighting Irish had to turn all those Alumni and Boosters’ frowns upside down and enhance their chances to enter the upcoming playoff format. It is no secret that the majority of High School Football talent is not up North and Notre Dame has lost a lot of their recruiting shine…getting their doors blown off on National Television by ( SEC Power House) the Alabama Crimson Tide certainly was not going to help recruiting.
All these things had left a bad taste on their Football Program.
Manti Teo appearing on multiple Media Outlets trying to explain that he had absolutely no part in a hoax to help his own Heisman candidacy and not to mention Brian Kelly telling the Fighting Irish faithful that he was not leaving, then later interviewing for a ( then) vacant Head Coaching Position with the Philadelphia Eagles were not good highlights.
These actions will not fill the hearts of blue chip recruits and their parents with confidence…trust me!
That Brian Kelly is a piece of work. Notre Dame uses their considerable cloud somehow to convince everyone that he had absolutely no involvement in the death of Declan Sullivan and he repays them by lying straight to their face.
Joe Paterno was not anywhere near Jerry Sandusky when he committed all his crimes, but Penn State and him paid dearly for their association with him.
A 20 year old kid falls to his death filming practice, while Brian Kelly is running practice, but nobody is held accountable for this tragedy.
So?!? Joe Paterno and Penn State are held to a different standard, than Brian Kelly and Notre Dame by the NCAA?!?
The following is what happened on that faithful day:
It’s not clear, but Brian Kelly or someone in his staff ( might’ve) ordered the poor kid up an unsafe tower on a dangerously windy day to video tape practice. The footage must have been vital for Notre Dame because the 20 year old kid went up the tower anyway.
The tower collapsed and Declan Sullivan fell to his death.
Earlier, before he fell to his death, Declan Sullivan had tweeted, “…that he was in a dangerous predicament.”. According to a report from WTSB in South Bend,.
Sullivan posted the following tweet at 3:22 p.m. ET, just as practice was beginning: “Gusts of wind up to 60 mph. Well today will be fun at work. I guess I’ve lived long enough.” Then, at 4:06 p.m. according to the station, Sullivan posted another and final tweet: “Holy (blank). Holy (blank). This is terrifying.”
How did Brian Kelly and Notre Dame where not ever found guilty of at least negligence on the death of Declan Sullivan with all of these evidences?…it’s beyond me!
I’m still trying to figure out how can any College Football Coach ever think that he’s ready to coach in the NFL, when he just got his (*)#%* handed to him on National Television 42-14.
Nick Saban has multiple titles in Alabama and he couldn’t cut it in the NFL, so by his thought process Kelly figured…that he was better Coach than Saban?
It must be always sunny inside that head of his!
