Sachin, Sachin who?

Updated on November 19, 2015

Being born in a cricket loving family, I grew up idolizing many cricket legends, shadow-practicing their shots in gully cricket before I realized I probably was better off studying my mathematics notes and grammar lessons. It was that time when my younger brother used to wake me up at 5 in the morning to watch Pakistan take on Australia in the year 2004, that time I was in 4th standard in school. At that stage I was even unaware of the technicalities of the game. I and my brother we were both crazy about the game. Such was the madness that we could spend hours playing cricket together under the harsh sun during the summers.

For us back in those days India-Pakistan cricket match was not just a game of cricket but a life experience. The clash was always set to provide a memory that the fans on either side will loathe or cherish for a long time.

In 2003 during the cricket world cup in South Africa the two Asian giants came head to head in a vital clash in Centurion. I remember watching that game there was no lack of emotion, color or noise. Even before the first ball the atmosphere was electrifying. Saeed Anwar hit a classy century. Pakistan had put runs on the board, and a bowling attack consisting with the likes of, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram. We without a doubt had the upper hand.

In the second half of the match Pakistan was hit by a Sachin storm. Tendulkar bamboozled the Pakistani pace trio. Battle between Sachin and Shoaib was a delightful prospect. Shoaib was hit over backward point for a famous six which shifted the momentum, he then backed it up with scrumptious back to back boundaries. The terror of Pakistani trio was silenced in a stunning style.

Though in the later half of the match Shoaib finally had the last laugh as he got Sachin out, but he had done the damage and India got home with six wickets. I as a child was heartbroken. We were knocked out of the world cup.

With the passage of the time acquiring little knowledge about the game I started loving Sachin bat, he was magical. The best thing about him was dedication which made him an all time great. As a Pakistani , I can safely say the only Indian player that drew no controversy and was liked by his fiercest rival fans also this depicted a lot about his character.

Mrs Tendulkar said at his Final game: "Cricket can do without Sachin, but Sachin Can't do without Cricket!! " His endeavour to Globalise the game must be lauded. The God of cricket to billions has taken the right path to make his involvement spread the game far & wide.!!! Good luck to ALL

Sachin is undoubtedly great... but when it comes to making score at fast, bouncy, or seeming tracks he is no better than most of sub-continent heroes who know the art of increasing run-balance on dead tracks.
