Six reasons to attend or watch UFC Brisbane
1. Enjoy Mark Hunt's performances before he calls it a day
Every time he has a fight booked it is a must-see event. Do not waste an opportunity to see the ‘Super Samoan’ at work. I don’t believe there is a better thing in all of combat sports than a walk-away knockout and Mark Hunt does it like no other.
2. The best of Australian/New Zealand MMA is on display
Older fighters such as Hunt, Hector Lombard and James Te Huna are inspiring the next generation of competitors including Jake Matthews, Ben Nguyen and Daniel Hooker. The local athletes are improving, going overseas to train with the top gyms in the world and there are more opportunities now for Mixed Martial Artists to grow at a local gym and build their skills.
3. You could witness a high-level performance from a lesser-known athlete
The match-ups for some of the Australian fighters could be deemed to be overly tough. Antonio Carlos Junior, Alan Jouban, Johnny Case, and Justin Scoggins are all quality opponents and are paired with Daniel Kelly, Brendan O’Reilly, Jake Matthews and Ben Nguyen respectively. This is a great chance for these Aussies to exceed expectations, make a name for themselves off these opponents and get a huge boost for their careers.
4. See what the new Hector Lombard can deliver
It is believed that performance enhancing drugs (PED’s) have been part and parcel of Mixed Martial Arts since its inception. For whatever reason people chose to use PED’s, as a big fan of Hector Lombard, I am hoping he can still be a dominant force as a clean athlete. It will be captivating to see what type of performance he displays at UFC Brisbane.
5. Queensland has the best weather in the world
Whether you live in another state of Australia or in another part of the world, a trip to Queensland is always enjoyable. Long heralded as the place where the weather is ‘beautiful one day, perfect the next’, the area around the location for UFC Brisbane is a holidaymakers delight.Tripadvisor.com.au suggests cruising the Brisbane River on a CityCat ferry as a great way to see Brisbane and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a nice day out. If that sort of attraction doesn’t get your attention then the famous Gold Coast with its nightclubs and golden sandy beaches is only a one hour drive from Brisbane.
6. A small venue means you will be close to the action
It has a capacity of up to 14,500 according to the official Brisbane Entertainment Centre and will be a completely different experience when compared to the open space of Etihad Stadium that could hold in excess of 60,000 people. None of the iconic Australian humour will be missed, as it felt like it was gone with the breeze at Etihad unless you were within 30 metres of the orator. Every note of the sound of combat will be heard, the pain and glory in high definition, and this time it can truly be said that there will not be a bad seat in the house.
UFC Brisbane takes place in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on Sunday March 20th local time.
