Legendary Soccer Players

There are hundreds of legendary soccer players that can be honored but, the ten listed here stand out for a variety of reasons. Please feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comment box at the very bottom of this page. Soccer takes loads of stamina and conditioning to compete at the top levels of the game.

1. Pele: Pele was born in Brazil in 1940 and he won the FIFI World Cup three times. He has the most goals with 541, and he is the single season top scorer with 126 goals. He was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1993. He could play with finesse or he could be an in your face baller. His stamina never seemed to waver nor did his supreme confidence on the field. Their simply is no comparison to the great Pele and he is simply the best as they say.

2. Diego Maradona: Maradona was born in Argentina in 1960 and he played in four FIFA World Cups. He was the World Cup captain 16 times, which is a record. His style is an attacking midfielder. He was great with a Soccer ball and his playing looked so effortless.

3. Johan Cruyff: Cruyff was born in Amsterdam in 1947 and his career totals are stunning. He is now a successful coach with a career of 401 goals in 710 total appearances in the rink. He is a Dutch Legend in the Sport. His stamina is stuff of legend and if anything he seems to improve and make adjustments mid game. This fan favorite was a student of the game and it showed on the field.

4. Ronaldo: Ronaldo was born in Brazil in 1976 and he won the FIFA Player of the Year award three times. He has 490 career goals and has won the World Cup twice. He holds many world records in the World Cup including most goals.

5. Giuseppe Meazza: Meazza was born in Italy in 1910 and he won the FIFA World Cup two times. Meazza scored 242 goals in 365 played games and he was primarily an inside forward during the bulk of his career.

6. Michel Platini: Platini was born in France in 1955 and he went to the World Cup three times. He was an attacking midfielder who won the Soccer Player of the Year award. Platini is Europe's top Goal scorer ever. He was very aggressive near the goal and was non stop till he got the point.

7. Marco Van Basten: Basten was born in the Netherlands in 1964 and he scored 277 goals in a career that was cut short by injuries. He was the best Dutch sportsman ever and he was named FIFA Player of the Year once and European Player of the Year three different times.

8. Roberto Carlos: Carlos was born in Brazil in 1973 and he played in three World Cups winning one of them. His main position is Left Wing Back and he has 111 total goals scored and he is a defensive specialist also as a defensive Midfielder.

9. Franco Baresi: Baresi was born in Italy in 1960 and He went to the World Cup three times winning once. One of the best Italian players ever and certainly the best Sweeper in Soccer history. His skills were top notch and win or lose he always gave his all avd he showed respect and humility during wins and losses.

10. Eusebio: Eusebio was born in East Africa in 1942 and he scored 585 total goals in his days on the field. He went to the World Cup in 1966 and won the African Championship three times also in his career as a Forward.

Soccer is the number one sport in the entire world. It takes major stamina and conditioning to compete at a high level on a constant basis. In some countries such as America it's called Soccer but in other countries such as England it is called Football.

      None of the images I have provided are copyrighted. Also just like I have done with 20 or so Boxing hubs(my favorite sport) I will add other hubs documenting certain greats and why I feel they are great. Amount Accomplished and longevity play a big role in this blog.

      Sounds like you did a lot of work on Wikipedia.

      I've had to vote this article down as it doesn't bring anything new to the table regarding 'soccer'. There's no info on spectacular goals or details WHY they're in your top 10.

      Also what source are you using for your images? These are highly likely copywrited images. You can't simply use them from google images and I have a feeling the rights to use some of these images would cost serious money!
