The Best Water Sports in History

There are tons of water sports but the ten listed below stand out for several different reasons. Always remember safety should always be the first priority when taking part in water sports.

1. Jet Skiing: This personal watercraft is used for recreation and sport. There are Jet Ski races and also ramp jumping competitions. Jet Skis were first released for sale in 1972. It is fun watching competitions but it's a blast to ride a Jet Ski. Always be careful and wear a helmet when jet skiing. You need to familiarize yourself with the water and your surroundings. Let your parents or friends know where you are going.

2. White Water Rafting: This sport and activity consists of riding and navigating an inflatable raft over rough waters. This activity came about in 1971. Anywhere between 2 to 8 riders can feel the adrenaline rush at once on this fast and rugged water ride. There are different levels of white water rafting. I would advise not going beyond what you are comfortable doing.

3. Water Skiing: In this past time and sport the participant rides skis being pulled by a motorized boat. Ramp jumping and one legged skiing are just some of the tricks that take place in this water sport. This is a very fun water sport for people of all ages. It takes a lot of practice but, once you are good at it, water skiing is a fun sport.

4. Kayaking: This narrow boat fits one person and is propelled by a double bladed paddle. Eskimos invented the first Kayaks over four thousand years ago for inland lakes hunting. This is now a sport that can be done as a singles event or a race against another competitor. Most true boat enthusiasts go for the biggest falls they can find but, always the most beautiful scenery.

5. Parasailing: In this recreation, the person soars like a kite in the sky while being towed by a boat over the water. In 1961, Para Sailing was invented by Pierre-Marcel Lemoigne. I would like to seriously try it myself but, it is not something a person who is afraid of heights should try. Parasailers are not for the faint of heart.

6. Fishing: There are different techniques to catching fish including: netting, spearing, rod and reel and angling. Fishing has been around for over 40,000 years. Fishing takes patience and a pole, fishing line, hook and bait and a little bit of luck.

7. Rowing: This sport involves at least two boats which race across rivers or ocean waters by rowing to the finish line. Rowing dates back to 1430 BC. Rowing takes strong upper body muscles to compete in.

8. Surfing: Surfers ride boards that carry them on top of waves and takes them back to shore. Surfing was discovered in 1767 in Tahiti. Surfing can be dangerous and it is important to check weather conditions before partaking in this sport. This is one sport that I admire the surfer. The sport that they do

9. Yachting: This recreational boating sport uses sailing vessels to race against other opponents next to them. Yachting has been recognized since 1851.

10. Wakeboarding: In this water sport the participant rides a single board similar to a snow board and does flips and other tricks. Wake Boarding was invented in 1946.

I've always wanted to jet ski, but afraid of drowning. Looks like a lot of fun though. Nice hub, voted up.
