Surfboards For Kids - Surfboards For Beginners For Sale

Updated on June 23, 2011

Surfing is one of the coolest sports on the planet; it's 'cool', you could say, because of the risk it undertakes, the beauty it can create, and the flat-out adrenaline it ignites in your body. It's cult-like sport, one where once you're in, there's no turning back. Living on the beaches, working on the beaches, surfing on the beaches: that's what the surfing life is like. Sounds appealing, doesn't it?

The one thing about surfing, the one, you could say, downfall, is that you need some quality surfing gear before you start. By quality surfing gear I mean surfboards, wetsuits, surfing boots, shirts, and other important accessories. It can become expensive; it can become even more expensive if your kids want to surf too; and, let's face it, if you're surfing, and you love it, then there's a good chance that they'll love it too.

And that brings up the next, and more important question: Where can i find surfboards for beginners - surfboards for kids - for sale online? The good thing is that there are many places where you can beginner surfboards for kids to buy online - but not all of them are soley meant for beginners or kids. If you want your child to have the best possible experience then it's best that you buy them the best surfboards for beginners.

RIght?

Right.

Best Surfboards For Beginners

The first thing you should know, before you go and buy a beginners surfboard for kids, is what the different types of beginners surfboards for sale are out there on the market.   You would be surprised to learn how much surfing technology has changed and evolved over the last decade or so; newer core materials, stronger and more detailed fins, even a different top material has changed surfing - for the better.

But what are the best beginner surfboards for kids?   I'd like to say it depends on the price you're willing to pay, as well as what kind of surfer you are, and what kind of surfer you want your kid to become (although you can't really decide that for them, you give them a nice gentle push in the right direction).

One of the newest kinds of surfboards to hit the waters, and one of the best kind of surfboards for kids and new surfers, are soft surfboards, also known as soft top foam surfboards.  Foam surfboards for kids - which are also great for more advanced surfers - is a great way for your child to begin his/her surfing career.  The soft top is built with the same strength and durability as a fiberglass surfboard, while adding more security and comfort; there will be less torque on the board, allowing for easier and more concise turns.  Or in one word - control.

Another great option for kids are shortboard surfboards.   Shortboard surfboards are, as their name suggests, are shorter in length than an average surfboard.  This is great for beginners as it allows them to easily get on and off the surfboard; plus, when they crash, and it is a when, it's not as dangerous.

Foam Surfboards For Kids

If you've decided that a foam surfboard, or soft surfboard, is meant for your kids - or, maybe you, if you're a beginner surfer - then you next need to know what the best foam surfboards are.   There are many surfing brands that make some of the best soft surfboards on the planet.

One of my favorite foam surfboards for kids, and adults alike, is the Liquid Shredder classic surfboard.  At five feet long this is a perfect starter surfboard - you could almost call it a shortboard, although it's a bit longer.  The thing about softboards is that the actual texture and top of the board isn't soft (it feels like a fiberglass board) but that the impacts are softer and the control in the water is softer.  The classic is one of the best softboards for kids, with great control and precision.

If a liquid shredder board is too expensive for you, but you still want one of the best surfboards for beginners, then maybe just a normal Blue foam surfboard is the choice for you.  There's nothing truly unique about this board - it' the standalone entry foam surfboard for anybody really.  It's a great place to start.

Another great option for surfboards for beginners are Greco surfboards.  Greco surfboards have a wide array of soft surfboards to choose from; the difference with Greco boards and other foam boards, is that they are meant for more skilled surfers.  If you're child has surfed before, and is ready to take it to the next level, then a Greco soft surfboard is a great surfboard for kids.

Shortboard Surfboards For Kids and Beginners

Another great surfing option for kids and beginners are shortboards. Shortboards are an easier and more reliable option than your more classic fiberglass longboard, or even the majority of longer soft surfboards. Shortboards make quicker turns, and are much more stable (in my opinion).

Just check out the features and decide for yourself:

  • Shortboards come in brands such as Roxy.
  • Great for smaller surfers; shortboards are a great girls surfboard.
  • Ideal for smaller waves (like shoulder length).
  • Flat nose bottom and curve = stability.
  • Tri Fin FCS Setup.
  • Range of cores, including Tuflite.
