The Wales superstar cost Spanish giants Real Madrid a colossal fee. Known for his supercharged running, and high velocity shooting, the 6 feet 4 inch Bale is set to be a monster of the game!


So here’s some things you might not know about the super athletic Welshman:

#1 Gareth Frank Bale born on the 16 July 1989 in Cardiff.

The young Bale attended Eglwys Newydd Primary School in Whitchurch and Whitchurch High School. A fellow pupil was Wales and British Lions rugby union star Sam Warburton.

#2 Bale played 40 times for Southampton, scoring 5 goals before switching to Spurs for an initial £5 million. Bale played in the same Southampton Youth team as Nathan Dyer and Theo Walcott.

#3 Gareth made his debut for Wales 2006 as a substitute against Trinidad and Tobago. His first start, though, was against the mighty Brazil at White Hart Lane! Bale scored his first goal on 7 October 2006 against Slovakia at the Millennium Stadium in a 5-1 loss.

#4 Dreams can come true...Bale remembers :"When I was younger, I had some close friends who always loved European football, and Real Madrid at that time were the dominant force. I remember family holidays when we used to go to Spain, and we'd bring back replica shirts of Real Madrid and pretend to be the players when we played in the park."

#5. He has been PFA Players’ Player of the Year in both season 2010-11and 2012-13 (when he was also Young Player of the Year). The FWA also made him Footballer of the Year for 2012-13.

#6. On 6 August 2006 Bale scored his first goal for Southampton in a 1-1 draw away to Derby. Unfortunately the early promise he showed with the Saints did not appear to be developing in the early days of his Spurs career. Indeed Bale went a record 24 league matches for Spurs without being on a victorious side.The 5-0 win against Burnley that marked the end of the run actually owed little to the Welshman, as he only came on in the 85 minute!

Luckily better days lay ahead...

#7. Bale made European football fans sit up and notice on 20 October 2010 when he scored a hat trick against reigning Champions League holder’s Inter. Even more remarkably, his goals came after Spurs had been trailing 4-0 at the San Siro.

#8.Despite a penchant for fashion and hair care, Bale is not very rock and roll!Bale lives with his long-time girlfriend, Emma Rhys-Jones and their young daughter Alba Violet.

#9. There has been much discussion over the transfer fee that Real Madrid splurged out. However when Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez, was interviewed on the Intereconomia television channel he admitted that he had cost €91 million,and was insured for that galactic sum.

#10. Is the Welsh Giant worth the fee? Only time will tell his value to Real Madrid but the early signs were promising. Bale managed to score on his debut at Villareal, and chipped in with more goals in the Champions League. But, perhaps, the early highlight was the three goals he scored against Real Valladolid. Bale said:

“I’ve only been here two to three months so being able to score a hat-trick at the Bernabeu is special for me and it’s something that will always stay with me,”

He makes things look easy; his pace is frightening. His acceleration is unbelievable because of his ability to go through the gears in very little space. He’s very good technically, which is also important. We must not forget that he plays football very well.”
