Anna Kournikova was born in Moscow, Russia. At the age of five she began holding tennis racquet and hittling at Sokolniki Park. Anna was a member of the prestigious Spartak Tennis Club and was coached by Larissa Preobraschenskaja. At eight Anna began appearing in junior tournaments.Anna signed a management deal at age ten and went to Bradenton, Florida to train at Nick Bolletierri's celebrated tennis academy.

She became the youngest player ever to win a Fed Cup match and went on to win the European Championships and the Italian Open Junior Tournament. Becoming the youngest player ever to wint the 18 and under division in the tournament which is the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl.

Anna turned PRO in 1995. She won two ITF singles tournaments, the 1st in Midland, Michigan, and the 2nd in Rockford, Illinois. Anna then battled through four qualifying rounds at the U.S. Open. She was the recipient of the prestigious Sanex WTA Tour Most Impressive Newcomer Award.

Anna has defeated many of the top players who have competed on the women's tour. These impressive wins, along with Anna's consistent top 10 rankings, two Grand Slam doubles titles at the 1999 and 2002 Australian Open, and 3 Grand Slam Mixed Doubles Finals, have more than proven her ability to excel in both singles and doubles on the WTA Tour.

As a player, Kournikova was noted for her footspeed and aggressive baseline play, and excellent angles and dropshots; however, her relatively flat, high-risk groundstrokes tended to produce frequent errors, and her serve was sometimes unreliable in singles.Kournikova holds her racket in her right hand but uses both hands when she plays backhand shots. She is a good player at the net. She can hit forceful groundstrokes and also drop shots.

Her playing style fits the profile for a doubles player, and is complemented by her height.

Anna's accomplishment on the court; making her the most recognized athlete in the world and the renowed endorser of the most famous and prestigous sportswear like: K-Swiss and Yonex.

Anna's Personal Life

Anna's marital status has been issue many times. Rumored said she was engaged to ice hockey player Pavel Blure and another report that she married NHL ice hockey star Sergei Fedorov.

Anna started dating pop star Enrique Iglesias in late 2001 which she appeard in his music video "Escape". The tennis player - who has been dating Enrique Iglesias on and off for eight years - has been wearing a large diamond ring on her wedding finger, sparking rumours the couple are set to wed.

Enrique claims that he's repeatedly asked his longtime girlfriend Anna to marry him but he's had no luck. He says, ''I always try, but she pays me no attention.''

Many of the avid fans of the tennis player was very disappointed because she ignores the proposal of the singer actor.
