The 2011 New England Patriots; All the Way for MHK!

Saving the Season

July 20, 2011 was a happy day for many NFL fans. The lock out had been ended and NFL football would resume. However, for Robert Kraft owner of the New England Patriots it was a bitter sweet moment filled with the biggest of personal defeats. He had just lost his loving wife, philanthropist and Patriots fan, Myra Kraft to cancer. It was a hard blow to take for anyone. And while many fans rejoiced in the return of NFL football, the Kraft family and Patriots Nation mourned a great loss.

In fact, it had been Myra, who had given Robert Kraft her blessing to complete the negotiations that would allow the NFL to return in 2011. Without her, Kraft might have not attended while focusing on his last days with his dying wife. Yet, in her selfless act, she told Bob he must go and bring the NFL back to the fans. He eventually accomplished this goal, and many credit him with being the most instrumental in the process.

Patch Work

The 2011 season was then dedicated to the loving memory of Myra Hiatt Kraft. Each player would wear her initials MHK on a patch. This patch would be placed over their left chest, and more specifically, over their heavy hearts to honor her.

She had been known as Momma Kraft to the players. She had always been the first to greet them with a hug and a kiss at the end of games, win or lose. She was always there with a smile.

Dedication

A Life of Giving Back

She had been one of the most dedicated people when it came to giving back to those less fortunate and to those who had served their country and their communities. As the head of the Patriots Charitable Foundation and the trustee of the Rober K. and Myra H. Kraft Foundation she impacted tens of thousands of people's lives in a positive way. This life long dedication impacted the Patriots players as well as they would participate in multiple charity events that would help give back to their local communities.

Some even modeled themselves after her in this regard. Tackle Matt Light started his own charity event that he had been holding for years to do similar work in providing for those less fortunate. His event is still held every year.

She truly made a positive impact on those around her and she will be missed greatly. That is one more reason, if the Patriots were to win this upcoming Super Bowl, it would only be befitting. Both Bob and Myra helped save this season and being dedicated to her, the Patriots would truly honor her memory forever by winning the NFL title and bringing another Lombardi Trophy back to Foxborough.

Four Myra!

After the AFC championship game, many felt that she had played a part in an unbelievable miss by the Raven's Billy Cundiff who was essentially kicking a little more than an extra point's distance away to tie the game and force overtime during the AFC championship. However, Cundiff did not just miss, he hooked it in an extreme fashion coming no where near the goal posts.

As Bob Kraft, held the AFC's Lamar Hunt Trophy in his hands he looked and pointed to the sky as if to thank Myra for looking down on her beloved team that day. It was a truly special moment. However, it won't be as special as the moment when the New England Patriots hoist their fourth Lombardi Trophy. That would truly be a perfect ending to a sad yet inspiring story of Myra Kraft and her legacy if the Patriots are fortunate enough to go all the way for MHK. This one will truly be FOUR Myra.
