The Best Races in the USA

Updated on February 3, 2012

The Color Race

This seems like the best race I have ever heard of, and get this, it is only a 5k!!! There are many different locations that you can run this race around the country (see the list below). You begin the race with a white t-shirt and at each kilometer, you are sprayed with different colors of paint!! By the time you are finished you look like a kaleidoscopic of color. This is such a fun twist to encourage you to train for a race. If you are interested, but you have never run, try the couch to 5k app or check out this website for training tips.

Where they take place:

San Francisco
Las Vegas
Kansas City
New York
So Cal
Twin Cities

Check out the PHOTO GALLERY to see pictures and click this link to watch the videos!

42 hours to run 126.2 miles. Let that sink in for a minute

Ok, now that you have thought about it, add to that equation that you can have a team of up to 6 people to run this race. There is a driver for each team and one teammate runs at a time. At certain points throughout the race each runner takes their turn and rotates until the whole race has been run. So, 126.2 miles/6 runners=21.03 miles each (all 21.03 miles are not run consecutively, so do not panic). If you are up for it, this is certainly a challenge to brag about.

Rock and Roll (Marathon and Half Marathon) Series

The Rock and Roll Series take place all over the world, but there are MANY in the US. Pick a major city, and there is probably a race taking place sometime each year. As you run, you will be passing a series of bands at different mile markers. Let's face it, running a half or whole marathon does take motivation and determination, so why not make it a little more fun? At the end of each race, runners get to experience a final concert and party to celebrate all of their training with fellow runners and supporters.

At the end of the race, like many other marathons, you also get a race metal. And let me tell you, boy have you earned it. There is no feeling like completing a race like this, but make sure to take some time to recover. You have earned it!

Thank you cloudexplorer! It was so nice reading your comment!! Running is one of my passions so I tend to write enthusiastically about it.

I hate that you and your wife cannot run outside year round like I can here in Louisiana! The coldest it has even so far this winter is about 35- which feels amazing to run the longer distances in.

I cannot wait to try all of these races and am already planning to do at least 2 of them this year and all of them by next year. The paint one does look like a messy blast!!

Thank you again for reading and giving such great feedback!

Now this was an awesome hub, not sure where all the people are at, here in the comment section, because this hub deserves a great deal of attention in my opinion.

I love running so that's the other thing I guess, can't wait for spring training to come, winter season hurts our outdoor running for me and my wife, but we will pick up where we left off in the mid fall.

Running in doors is cool, but we prefer the great outdoors as our stage and maybe one day we can do some marathon training. That 5K with the paint stuff looks super fun, I watched every video too, might even try the obstacle course challenge it looked kinda crazy but fun!

Awesome job and keep up the great work here, in due time it will begin to pay off indeed, I like your energy and enthusiasm you show for life thus far through your hubs, great energy here. Voted up on all levels! Thank you for sharing such a beautifully displayed hub with us all.

As a runner, I have to admit these all sound ridiculously awesome. Thank you for sharing them. I'm sure I won't be running any of them anytime soon, but they all sound fantastic! Hearing about them is inspiration enough!
