The World’s Largest Swimming Pool on Earth
I can’t ever imagine that the world’s largest swimming pool apparently exists on earth. It is indeed very large, massive; even we can barely see it through Google Earth. The world’s largest swimming pool is known as San Alfonso pool. San Alfonso pool is located in Algarrobo, Chile about 100km on western capital of Santiago. San Alfonso pool has been created and developed by Crystal Lagoons Corporation. San Alfonso pool is part of San Alfonso del Mart resort complex. Believe me, San Alfonso pool is the largest pool today on the earth. It was built near the coast and in amazing views of the Chilean central coast.
San Alfonso pool stretches along 1,013 meters (3,324 ft) or 8 hectares (19.77 acres) in length, it holds about 250 million liters (66 million gallons) of water and have a maximum depth of 35 m (115 ft). They keep balancing the water temperature so that it can be used comfortably. San Alfonso pool has been recorded on Guinness Book of World records as the largest swimming pool in the world. The water in San Alfonso pool has blue crystal in color. It is not only a pool that use for swimming but also can use for sail boating, snorkeling or other water sports experience because of its massive length.
The man behind this idea is Fernando Fischmann, the chairman and founder of San Alfonso del Mar real estate tourism project. At first, he thinks about a unique concept that never existed yet. He is dreaming about creating a large lagoon with clear waters which it can serve the guests to get a chance to do any activities in the water such as swimming, snorkeling or sailing with safety. He realizes that waters from the Chilean coast are frigid and dangerous and swimming activities on the coast are prohibited. So Mr. Fischmann then travels around the world to seek a better technology to turn his dream into reality. But he found that the technology didn’t exist except the only option is to make a very large swimming pool. So, he invents the technology and then patent it (reg. #43534) and also build a new company to facilitate his dream called Crystal Lagoons Technology.
The technology is to accommodate and filters the water that took from the Chilean coast then keep balancing the water temperature to the appropriate level of comfort, so it can use for any water activities. The technology is also developed to make the water colors bright with blue crystal clear. This technology even can reduce the cost of maintenance to typical pools.
They try to keep San Alfonso pool to have a constant flow of clean seawater into the pool and transfer the murky water back to the ocean, using a filtration system to desalinate the fresh seawater before they transfer it into the pool and clean the pool water before they transfer it back out to the sea. This method uses a computer-controlled suction and filtration system to suck the water from the sea with one stop and pump the water out of the other, as the sun will warm the water to 26C which is 9 degrees warmer than the ocean water. Crystal Lagoon reported that it is required around five years to construct the pool and added to that the eye-watering preliminary cost, then it takes yet another £2million a year to keep with operating purchase. San Alfonso pool is open to the public in December 2006.
San Alfonso del Mar has been a major tourist attraction and also a well-known vacation destination intended for local Chileans as well as tourists through all over the world. With the beautiful landscape views from the ocean as well as white-colored soft sand shorelines, visitors could engage in many activities such as swimming, diving, snorkeling or boating. So, how curious are you want to visit this largest swimming pool?
From bird view, we can see that San Alfonso pool is very board compare to the hotel buildings and other buildings surrounding the pool. We can see the blue color that has been created by Crystal Lagoon technology that looks beautiful and fascinating.
